I now understand that epee is a far more "honest" weapon than foil. I am addicted to it and will fence epee every opportunity I get.
Welcome to the dark side. You're just jealous because the voices only talk to me -

Sabrist and foilists are just upset that we epeeists take responsibilities for our actions. theres no ref to blame for a bad call. If you're fencing on a grounded strip, 90% of the time if you get hit its your fault. They just dont want to lose their excuse :-P
In all seriousness, the only real piece of advice is listen to your coach. cause mine knows WAY more than me so i tend to try to do what he says and it helps a lot. Epee Fencers do it to the hilt! -

Array Yes, why have a referee to keep you guys from hitting the floor, or your own feet, or fencing half off the strip, or trying to cadge distance after a halt, or....
"Truth", indeed! -

Array Inq, Inq, Inqy-poo ... That you're even hanging around this epeecentric thread is revealing ooooodles about your secret desires. Rumors are gonna start circulating about which weapon you really want to play with.
Heck, I'm starting one right now. Yep. Inquartata wants to be one of us. He wants to fence epee. Inq loves the epee! -

Array I actually fenced epee last weekend. It was amusing and endearingly silly An entertaining second weapon . . . "Arm yourself, Watson, there is an evil hand afoot ahead." -- Dennis Pierce, 2010 Bulwer-Lytton contest, detective fiction category runner-up. -

At the very least, your presence here justifies the purpose of this thread. Pay attention, people: Other Fencers Care About What Epeeists Think. They want/need/desire our opinions and leadership. So keep those rep points flowing! -
I am an epeeist. Bouncing is awesome. Epee is by far the more powerful weapon. To show my purity to epee, I will show you a picture a foil I have recently mutilated. It has been mutilated to show my disdain for foilists. http://www.fencing101.com/vb/attachm...tachmentid=805 The sweet is never sweet without the sour. -

It is our destiny. despite me fencing foil in my avatar, i'm now a serious Epeeist (and it took a lot for me to actually use caps). epee fencers are simply more intelligent; we think more. its the weapon of truth, purity. it has stayed the same throughout the years and because of the nature, immune to the nonesense of timing changes and things like that crap. and of all the three weapons, which group of fencers would fare the best in a "real swordfight" anyway??
and we're not slow; anyone who's seen me fence will agree. epee simply allows you think while you fence; to construct well planned touches that make you go "ooooooohhhhh, nice touch by me"
epee is pure theatre as well. you can expect the unexpected. how many times have you seen completely screwed up seedings after the pools of an epee tournament?? what you hit is what you get, no adapting to referring style, just the fencer in front of you. no ROW to hide behind so no "i 'm running at you chasing you down the strip, you can't hit me and score because i have ROW" nonesense. no safety net. sure you get and give up "lucky touches" but thats only because of technical flaws.
epee is pure class, elegance and sophistication; end of story!! -

That's the best looking foil i've ever seen. Epeeists are the coolest and the fencing world knows it! If you step up to the bell, RING IT! -
Used to fence foil, tried epee, quit foil and never looked back. -

Array That's what I love about Epee', it's so simple in theory..but complex in application. I love that the only one who dictates whether you win or lose is yourself. Most of all I love the feeling of completely owning an action and one lighting someone. RebelFencer's Awesome Quote of the Week:

Array Now that I've made the switch for real (from foil)...I'm finding that epee = love. And more impressive bruises. -
