| 2004 Olympics DVDs Ok, so I was lazy with getting these duplicated. I asked a friend to do the converting from PAL -> NTSC. He didn't have time, so I finally got the DVDs back and went back to the duplication house that I used to go to with the videotapes.
Well, the good news is that the cost has dropped significantly. When I first approached them in October (soon after the Olympics and when I received the DVDs), they were asking for $130 to do the PAL->NTSC conversion and $13/disk for duplication. Now, it's $49 to do the conversion and $8.00 for duplication (for 25 disks).
So I took the plunge and made copies of the following disks:
Men's Foil Individual (1 semi-final, bronze and gold)
Men's Saber Team (bronze and gold)
Men's Saber Individual (both semis, bronze and gold, I believe)
Women's Saber Individual/Men's Epee Individual (both on one disk)
The offering is just plain direct conversion from PAL -> NTSC without adding any chapter information or getting rid of dead time (in the WSI, there's a LOT of deadtime as the camera panned the audience).
So right now, without asking for any orders, I'm out $1000 for making copies.
I hope people will be indulgent to order copies so I'm not stuck with 100 disks and $1000. At $250 for making 25 copies, that comes to $10/disk which is a great deal. I'll add the shipping and tax mark-up of $3 more and it's still a great deal at $13.00/disk.
If there's no problems with the disks (such as those I encountered when trying to preview them on my computer's DVD-ROM drive), I should have them by next Wednesday. If you want a copy, send email to: edew@firstplacefencing.com with the following information:
Name
Address
contact information
Disks and Quantity
(MFI, MST, MSI, WSI/MEI are the four possible disks).
Payment will be in check or paypal. I will reply to all orders with my mailing address for checks or my paypal account name.
Additional fees:
Paypal payment fee: $1.50/disk
Mailing to outside US: $1.50/disk

| Forgot to mention:
Additional disks that I have, but am waiting to decide whether to make duplicates from are:
* Women's Epee Individuals (semis and finals)
* Women's Team Epee (featuring the Canadian team -- unfortunately, getting spanked by the French team; the German/France match with Duplitzer defeating Flessel-Colovic in overtime, very exciting)
* Women's Foil Individual (semis and finals)
* Men's Team Epee
* Men's Team Foil (did that Hungarian referee make bad calls? You make the call...; also see the flying Tiomkin attack against Ganeev [resulted in a yellow card, though] I did wonder why they put Jed as anchor.)
Women's Epee Individuals, preliminaries and quarter-finals (guess Women's epee is exciting in Germany, but that's probably because of Britta Heidemannn).
If people clamor with interest for these disks, I will make dupes of them as well.

Seriously, I will probably want one each of the sabre discs, despite not having a DVD player ( ) once the dust from tax season and credit card bills for the Denver NAC settles. I will also mention it at my club, for those benighted souls who do not have the taste to frequent fencing.net.... |

| I'll want at least one but you have to wait until I'm in the US next to a checkbook in a week or so.
I'll also mention it to the people at the club I fence with when I'm in the US and see if I can get any takers there.
Thanks for doing this!

| MS individual, who else is fencing besides montano and nemscik?
I didn't enjoy the gold bout much, but for both semis and the bronze it's probably more than worth it and I'm definitely interested.

| Buy The Damned Dvds!!!!!! C'mon people. There has been whining on the board since the Olympics about the lack of footage available. Eric has gone into his own pocket to pay the upfront costs for duplication--so buy the damned things.
The quality of the fencing is good, the disks are based on digital satellite to DVD recording, so the quality of the image is good, and there are about 2 hours of fencing on each one of them. The only thing that sucks is the German announcers.
So cough up!

Actually, I think there's some preliminaries with Ivan Lee against Podz and then the semi finals before the bronze and gold. 2 hours of saber is a lot of saber.

How does one do if I want to pay you with a check..?
I haven't used checks for at least ~10 years and I'm not fond of the PayPal option.

| Email me at edew@firstplacefencing.com for more information. But since you're in Sweden, you might contact your fellow countryman and video source, Peter Gustafsson (who also posts here. Maybe he'll read this thread). It'll be closer and easier for you to get it.
And, since I'm making these DVDs into NTSC format, you'll need to re-format them into PAL, which isn't the easiest thing to do.
All Scandinavian fencers should consider talking with Peter to obtain copies of the Olympics. At least they'll be in Swedish or Norwegian and not German. (Funny, it's easier for me to understand the Norwegian announcer in the tapes that Peter sent me than the German from the DVDs that sabreur sent me. And I took a year of German, too.)

| Eric,
Are you going to be in Chattanooga? If so, would it be possible for you to bring some there?
Thanks. And thanks for making these DVD's available.

| I'll be at Chattanooga and will bring whatever remainind disks with me.
Also, here's a recap:
There are FOUR disks (at the moment):
DISK 1: MFI (semis, bronze and gold)
DISK 2: MSI (some prelims, semis, bronze and gold)
DISK 3: MST (bronze and gold)
DISK 4: WSI/MEI (bronze and gold only, I believe, for WSI and bronze and some gold for MEI -- as I recall, they skipped from 2-2 to 14-10 or something like that).
