| Forum Themes / Graphics First - Apologies for the lack of a good "April Fools" joke on the board. I just didn't have time to implement one this year...sooooo many good ideas too.
Now, I'm going to open a can of worms here, but I've been thinking about adding some custom "skins" to the forums and want to get some ideas for fencing-related themes you would like to see. For those that don't know what "skins" are, I'm referring to the overall "framing" of the site - header graphics, etc.
So, feel free to plop your ideas in here. All will be read and I may even eventually get around to implementing one or two. Go ahead and talk about whatever custom graphics you'd like to see as I would hire a real designer to draw some of the stuff up.
Later,
Craig |

| I will probably be throwed stones at for saying this but I really think it's quite ok as it is.
(Of course it would be nice if the 'forum colour' was blue instead of green so that you would "Go Blue" instead of green. It would match my avatar sooo much better..! )
Instead I think that there still are some (minor) issues that could be fixed.
Just to give you one example that I noticed yesterday: the Photo Gallery index page does not have a link to the main forum page.
Also some added smilies, or to replace some of the smilies with others would be nice. Ok...some nicer forum header graphics would be cool but other than that I think it's ok as it is.

| I personally don't like the green and white scheme...
Red and black would be much cooler |

| Being a fencing site, it should conform to the color scheme of our sport, which traditionally would be white, pure white, ok grey for the bars to represent lame's but think of the chaos off allowing fencers to choose colors they enjoy......!

| Black...like the color of our souls!
Um, actually...some more smileys would be really cool....like one that says "Owned" or something. Other than that, I like the site's appearance.

| I like this color scheme much better than any forum I've been to. It's more asthetic. Especially with the limit on avatar size, no pictures in the signature, etc., there's less clutter. So yeah, I'd say keep this one. |

It's familiar and easily read.
No need to tinker with "New Coke"

Most of them are bu** ugly. Colors, page dimensions, organization of the VB-sanctioned elements, etc., are awful.
You have done a brilliant job to make the board elegant, pleasing to look at, and easy to read. Shrinking the width of the page, for example, is a stroke of brilliance.
Look at those big wide cinemascope boards (like the UK LP board for example) -- they are very hard to read.
You have done a brilliant job organizing interactivity. A lot of VB boards screw that up, too. Too much stuff, sloppily organized, weird logic, everything all over the place.
Take a big kudos for your engineering of the board, Craig, and think very hard about changing anything.
You've achieved a lot, and you are building a great brand.
Don't be impatient.

| I think if you really want somthing to do then how about alternative themes somthing each board member can acess in their User CP for example "Classic Green" by default, or "Uhalmann Blue" or "Allstar Red" and "LP Yellow" choose one of those options and all of the graphics change. I personally really enjoy the green.

Craig, perhaps you could have vendors sponsor a theme that features thier logo and/or products. They pay you based on how often that theme is viewed. The choice of theme could determine what ads appear on the user's page. Theme could be weapon specific too. |

| Exactly. And dark blue for the print, as in the required lettering for names on the back of lames and jackets. Thank you for your support.
Seriously, add another vote for "Looks great the way it is, no need to fix what isn't broken". |

| Another vote for 'it ain't broke' -- the layout's clean, much easier to read than many other forum-style sites I've seen. You've done a great job here, Craig. |

| It's effective as-is. Utilitarian. Why change a boring color scheme just because you CAN, when the original works just as well?
... Oh my gawd. I sound like a traditionalist defending against allowing color fencing uniforms.
OK. New opinion: Keep it simple and mostly white, but allow us to pick a highlight color (or two) for personalization. |
