| No, Alan, You still don't get it!
You are afflicted by at least two major disorders: OCD, and no sense of humor. OCD is for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (so that you don't go off another "racist" tangent). Your lack of sense of humor is probably (hopefully?) due to your limited understanding and knowledge of the English language and vernacular. A heavy dose of Prozac, and a bit of modesty and some serious practice, should take care of the former and alleviate the latter.
By now everyone understands that you don't like the new timings in foil, and that you want to go back to the old timings. But you are preaching in and to the wrong forum. Why don't you reserve your tirades, preferably in French to avoid having to put your foot in your mouth every now and then, for Rene Roch, le roi Rene, as you call him, and have a run at it? With your persistence and insistence, if he is forced to read all your postings, he may eventually give in to your requests.
I suspect hower, that if le roi Rene reads your postings in this forum, he'll quibble with you being a representative of the "forces du progres" and may consider you a retrograde reluctant to accept ANY change.
So, Alan baby, redraw your target, aim your verbal missiles, and shoot ... but spare the rest of us all your faux pas in the English language and in your misunderstandings of our sense of humor.
Merci.

PPS: "Comical Ali" is a nickname and a play with words about the savory characters of your now out of a job friend Saddam Hussein entourage. Ali Hussein al-Majid, AKA "Chemical Ali," a cousin of Saddam Hussein is the man thought to have ordered the 1988 chemical attack on Kurds. Mohammed Saeed Al-Sahaf, otherwise known as "Baghdad Bob," became "Comical Ali" ... another word play you'd have a hard time understanding. Sorry Bud, no racism in all this, just fun with words and concepts you don't get. Just in a futile attempt to improve your understanding of the English language and sense of humor, check this site

| Alan,
Thank you for your posts. I'm glad you seem to tolerate the ad hominum attacks and rude behavior on what was once a more pleasant and informative forum. I'm only sorry that I have to wade through all these other messages.
Frankly, I don't mind whether someone is for or against the new timings as long as they can produce (1) a cogent argument, (b) some new information, or (c) anecdotal evidence. I don't see any point in posts that can easily be condensed to either "Rene Roche is a moron" or "Alan is a moron."
So, please continue reporting what you hear or observe in Europe.
Thanks and best wishes,
Dieter |

Last note on this topic. Everyone - stay off the ad hominems and move on to relevant discussion.

I don't know about foil and epee, but I heard that in sabre, you used to have touches against. In other words, if you had 2 points and your opponent had 10, you would have won the bout. It's the same concept. |

It's the same concept. | In all weapons it was scored touches against until 1984. This made much more sense to me, since the point of fencing is to avoid getting hit, and you could keep fencing until you had been hit 5 times.
Alas, they decided that would be too confusing for potential TV spectators, so they switched it.

in the Arabic world and giving this name to somebody whose name is not Ali
has no sense otherwise.
I like humor but not racist humor.

gary hayenga | One of the better decisions. I hear Tiger Woods may try and convince his sport that having the low score win confuses potential TV spectators.
They also change the name from Director and President of the Jury to referee, because of the same reason. Tommy Lasorda may want to talk to his sport about changing Umpire to referee

1/ i would accept with grace any change not clearly rejected by a vast majority of foilists
2/ That some changes were needed for the Flick/ROW problem.( Not the flicks
themselves.) And that these changes should be done in refereing not by these broken test timings. Quote: |

| Sending emails or letters to King René to protest against these broken test timings is of course a good idea. You see i accept good ideas from any source.
In fact, he has probably got many mails already because this action
was already asked for monthes ago on the French forum.

| Just a WAG, but I think there's a good chance that in France with +10% arab minority expression like "Comical Ali" may be a bit loaded, especially if used too freely in the northern suburbs of Paris, in which case your widow will be informed as soon as your badly mauled body is discovered. |

We were supposed to not talk about that again.
But i think you miss the point.
I am not a muslim but ...
1) Ali is a prophet for the chiists a vast branch of the muslims.
So (no offense intented, but i didn't create this "Comical Ali") for
them it sounds like "Comical Jesus" or "Comical Jean-Paul"
so you can understand that it hurts them.
2) I think that the anti-racists laws in France would not permit the press
to use such a name.

And sorry, everybody, for not letting it die. I just though it was worth a small comment. |
