Veterans World Championships Schedule Set
Tampa, Fla., USA - Women's Foil (50) and Men's Sabre (50) will kick off the competition at the 2005 Veterans World Fencing Championships at Tampa when it gets under way at 0900 hours local time, Friday, 2 Sept.
Also on the opening day schedule are Men's Foil (60) and the inaugural Women's Sabre (60) world championship event, both beginning at 1100.
National teams and delegations are expected to arrive at the Hyatt Regency Tampa City Center on Wednesday or Thursday (31 Aug. 31-1 Sept.) The Hyatt is the headquarters and the venue for the international event.
The bout committee, organizers, national team captains and referees will meet in a mandatory session at 1430 on Thursday, 1 Sept. At the same time, registration and weapons control for opening day competitions will begin.
The Women's Sabre contests will mark the first veterans world championships in those events sanctioned by the Federation Internationale d'Escrime, (FIE), the sport's international governing body. Women's Sabre (50) will begin on Sunday at 1100 hours.
Opening ceremonies will be held Friday, 2 Sept., at 1700 hours, followed by the championship finals in the day's event at 1730 hours.
Men's Epee (50) and Women's Epee (50) will kick off the competition on Saturday, 3 Sept., with both starting at 0900 hours. Women's Foil (60) and Men's Sabre (60) will begin at 1100 hours with finals in all four events starting at 1700 hours that afternoon. Registration and weapon's control for fencers competing Sunday will open at 0800.
The last day of competition, Sunday, 4 Sept., will begin with final registration at 0800 with Women's Epee (60) and Men's Epee (60) starting at 0900. Men's Foil (50) and the Women's Sabre (50) contest will begin at 1100. Finals in the last four events will begin at 1700, followed by the tournament's closing ceremonies.
The event's Gala will begin at 2030 hours. The Veterans World Fencing Championships is the sport's only meet mandated by the FIE to end with a party.
