| Beer Being drunk and bored, I thought I would propose this topic. What do you all think of the state of beer drinking in the US? Personally, I am disgusted. I don't see how a vast majority of people can stand drinking these watered-down, colorless, tasteless, American-style lagers like Bud, Miller, Coors, etc...
I'm not exactly a master brewer myself, but I'm fairly well versed on most every type of beer produced around the world and find that the American lager sits at the bottom of the barrel (pun intended).
Anyway.... what kind of beers does everyone else drink? and why do so many people like American lagers? it seems like madness to me.....
For me, I prefer a good deal of maltiness. My favorite is the porter, closely followed by imperial stouts that are both light on the hops and carbonation. The porter produced by Anchor Brewery is by far the best porter made in the US.

| I can't stand heavy beers with all that bitterness. I like mine light and refreshing. Budweiser and the other "watery" ones aren't my favorite, but neither do I dislike them.
My usual preference is Yuengling, which has a nice flavor to it.

A lot of the high alcohol content beers that are available in the US are pale ales which are brewed with a lot of hops which make them bitter. If you try the maltier beers like porters and stouts, they are actually more sweet than bitter. If you still stand by lighter beers, try weizen, hefeweizen, and some blonde or creme ales. They remain light and refreshing but can contain much more flavor than the typical American style lager. I especially recommend a weizen with a lemon wedge... better than lemonade on a hot day (in American breweries the equivalent would be wheat beers).

| All I know about beers is that my limit is ONE. Yes, you read that right, ONE. Ah yes, the wonders of being Asian.

Seriously though, and I do take my beer drinking seriously, I'm a big fan of stouts but have been tasting the cream ales lately! I prefer the heartier ales over the "watery lites." I tasted one of those low-carb-free beers the other day and decided that they were blander than water! YUK. |

| Mmmm smaller, less well known beer are quite tasty. Fat Tire out of Colorado is delicious, and Blue Moon is also very tasty. As for a personal favorite, I don't think you can ever go wrong with a Shinerbock. |

| Canadian beers are quite good.
I like Keiths and Fort Garry Brewery stuff.
But if you want the really good stuff, it's gotta be European. |

| I think Heineken is good beer. I also like Sapporo. I like beer that is bitter and sharp. The worst beer I have ever tasted is Michelob. |

| Try to drink 'BULLDOG' it is a nice red strong ale. But if you want to drink something really strong then try 'AMSTEL'.

| I like Porter, Amber Ales, Vienna Lager, Lambic, Oatmeal Stout, Oktoberfest, American Pale Ale, Export Lager, and Cream Ale styles. And American Wheat Ale
Anchor Porter? Not my favorite. I like Sierra Nevada Porter or my own, which I tend to brew to about 6% and more chocolatety than roasty. Yuengling I find pretty tasteless.
For Ambers I like Firestone Walker Double Barrel Ale, and Anderson Valley Boont Amber. Fat Tire is okay, but it has been eclipsed in recent years by other brands.
Vienna is hard to find. Dos Equis is close. Shiner Bock is insipid. I brew my own.
Lambic: I like the Gueze, Framboise and Peche types by Lindemann, Cantillion, and Fantome.
Anderson Valley Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout.
Lost Coast Downtown Brown Ale is good. I also will drink Newcastle Brown Ale as a session beer.
Paulener Oktoberfest, Spaten Munich, etc.
For American Pale Ale, I like Full Sail and Pyramid. Goose Island... Most APAs are pretty good unless the brewer tries to go gonzo with the hops. I don't like IPAs usually - too resiny.
American Wheat Ale is one of my favorites for session beer. Sierra Nevada Wheat, Blue Star Wheat. It is very easy to brew. Good crisp malt body and noble hops. Aaah!
I find Bud Miller and Coors to be watery. And I don't drink like I did in college. These days I will usually have only 1 beer a day, and no more than six on a Saturday with friends. But they are bigger beers to in terms of style than bud.

| I don't drink much beer. But I did enjoy the Sam Adams winter brew when I had it a few weeks ago. And Sierra Nevada pale ale is very pleasant. Hmm, reading these posts, I am tempted to go have some taste tests this weekend!

| Beer, BAH! Looks like horse urine, smells like horse urine, tastes like what I imagine horse urine would taste like! And yet people actually PAY for the stuff. Obviously there is a streak of insanity running right through human nature... |

Anyway, I'm quite fond of ales. Particularly Caffreys, Newcastle Brown Ale or Kilkenny. Every once in a while I'll have a stout.
I also like lagers. Carlsberg Hof is a very nice one for example. And, it was quite some time ago now, but as I remember I liked the local Spaten beer in München a lot.
