| First tournament, fencing epee (which I'd been fencing for, oh, a week, at that point) and sabre (which I'd been fencing for a few months...I'm a foilist now).
In epee pools, I had one victory, one 4-5 loss, a 5-1 loss, a 5-0 loss, and I don't remember my other match (if there was another match).
Went on to fence the guy I lost 5-1 to in DEs, he beat me I think 15-5 or so. I still hate that guy.
Sabre, I had a 5-3 win, a 5-1 win, a 5-3 loss and I don't remember what my other scores were; all losses though.
Then I went on to fence the kid I beat 5-1, he beat me 15-13 I think, at the end I just lost all my energy and he caught up and beat me. It was horrible (I don't hate him, though ) |

| No, I don't remember my first DE loss. I can't even remember which year it could have been, or which opponent.
I'm fairly sure I was aware of my limitations though and not too disappointed about it!

| HA! I'm still waiting to WIN my first DE in a tournament! Beat that.
I've tried drinking that first experience off my mind, believe me. But as they say, you always remember your first. (I think I wrote about it in a thread months ago, first tournament woes. Humiliation galore!) After all the other horrible stuff that happened that day - not scoring ANY touches, not having working equipment, fencing people with As, etc. - I was oddly relieved to be in the DE. It was a very quick bout against one of the top seeds (because I was seeded last, obviously). I didn't know 15 points could happen so fast. Ahh, acceptance, the final stage of grief - I think after the first 7 touches landed, I just stood there and let him hit me so it would be over faster. Reminds me of an old boyfriend or six, but that's another story. Anyway, that way, I could at least go home and drown my sorrows. Which I did. And think about it tomorrow - at Tara. After all, tomorrow is another day. (...Music swells...) |

| My first year fencing, at the novice tournament. I was doing pretty well, actually, and ended up 10th, which was lovely. But I lost to a girl who kept doing the same thing! Which is one of thie worst things for me, cause she kept doing the same thing and I couldn't figure out what to do about it. That was worse than the losing. I don't remember the score, but I know I got at least a few touches on her. >:) |

| I remember... I remember my first DE loss. My opponent was the top seed for that tournament, and I was dfl. He went easy on me though, and let me get 11 touches before he really let lose on me. He made the inevitable loss a little less painful, we both had fun... but he made sure he got his victory |

*shifty eyes* This mystery opponent truly sounds like a man amongst men...

| Salutes to Walter and Doc.
My first loss in a DE was in sabre at Vanderbilts first tournament this year. 15-8 to a C. Not at all bad since I had been fencing for about a month. |

So if you'll excuse me I'll go watch some paint dry.

You are free to love yourself, but please do it somewhere where we don't all have to listen and where it is relevant. |
