| Your Favorite Fencers OK, so I'm bored of comments about Alan and his flepee, so, I thought I would ask who your favorite fencers are. We know who the best are, but who are you're favorites and why.
Now, you need to have seen them fence either on video or in person...
Breakdown by weapon, sex, and country...
ME
Eric Srecki (FRA) - He's just awesome, athletic smart, and efficient.
tied with
Sandro Cuomo (ITA) - His footwork is awesome, his technique is gorgeous, and his fleche is to die for....
MF
Elvis Gregory (CUB) - Fast, Fiery, and all around good guy
MS
Aldo Montano (ITA) - He's got balls
used to be Tarantino, but Montano definitely takes the top spot this year...
WE
Laura Flessel-Colovic (FRA) - Beauty and style
WF
Giovanna Trillini (ITA) - Domince, agressive, and athletic
WS
Don't have one...

| ME: Milanoli... he may not be the best, but he has tons of style and flair.
MF: Cliff Bayer, the way he works and trains is just great... he actually inspired me to train and work hard.
MS: Poz, his game is just amazing, he just builds a little house around his opponent and then blows it up.
WE: Flessel, I like her footwork style, her fencing is so..... snipery. It seems like she just picks her place, and then boom.
WF: Vezzali, she's cool, and she has an awesome fanbase.
WS: Ward, I guess. She wins alot, and for her age, is doing very very well. Its really kinda scary.

| hmmmm, great thread.
MF: Golubitsky (of course!): he has so many different ways to get a touch and puts on a good show when he fences
American MF: Cliff Bayer: he seemed to work so much harder than other foil fencers, so much tenacity and desire to get a touch by any means possible; I loved his attacks-in-preparation that defeated so many slow flickers
MS: Tarantino: again, great intensity, a wicked scream when he wins
Covaliu: the guy is a walking textbook for saber technique
ME: Arpad Horvath and Ivan Kovacs
WS: Sada Jacobson, great footwork |

| my fav's:
epee: f. jeannet, flessel (they're both "islanders" so i'm biased , and i like their style, not like mine but i like it nonetheless), fischer (more like my style of epee fencing).
foil: sanzo, vanni (like the italian style of modern foil).

| MS: Lukashenko is probably my favorite to watch. He's so insanely clean, his technique is like legos it just clicks into place.Everything is textbook. Part of his weakness tho seems to be his clean technique as there are discernable breaks in his tempo and that's when he loses.
Ivan Lee is probably my other favorite. He's always so collected on strip, he just HITS people. He's got good footwork and distance and keeps himself together on strip.
At the, richmond I think NAC he was fencing sergey isayenko. Sergey did a jump 2 riposte, and as calmly as possible ivan stood there made a parry 4 and riposted. Textbook.
WS: Sada Jacobson is on the list. I enjoy her overpowering technical skills.
Also on the list is Daria Schneider, who is the craziest WS fencer I've ever seen. Such profficient technical skills, and beyond that technical. If you've ever fenced her you know you more often than not you come out feeling silly. She takes crazy risks and stays calm on strip and at the same time can ramp up the intensity when she needs to. Honestly the most fun WS fencer to watch that I've seen.
MF: Haven't seen anything beyond NAC level since the new timings were put in. But I DIDN'T like watching the italians at the olympics. By contrast I enjoyed watching the chinese team and their style.
Jon Tiompkin is probly my favorite to watch, mostly because of his intensity.
WF: No idea.
WE: Shrug
ME: Nationaly, I enjoy watching Ben Solomon fence. He's big and overpowering and it's fun to watch.

| ME: Noodle and my number 1 stunna Benton Heimsath.
... also, Horvath and the somewhat-less-well-known Petrascek (sp?) from Wayne State. He's reminiscient of Soren Thompson but his fluidity in motion is really really apparent when you fence him. |

| These aren't the greatest fencers ever (though they are pretty damn good), I more go on entertainment value -
MF: 1. L. Tuckers (CUB) - Well, I was bound to love anyone whose technique is best described as swashbuckling. He was just a top, top athelete.
2. L. Taddei (ITA) - He's just got a bag of tricks up his sleeve. Produces creative flair fencing of the highest quality. It almost felt like a pleasure to lose to him when we last fenced.
3. A. Wessels (GER) - Brilliant flamboyant attacking fencer. Shows you how foil should be fenced.

| Great responses...
Although, I'm really curious as to why we like the fencers we like. I mean we can all agree that Kolobkov is the best ME fencer due to his consistency. For some reason however, I always find myself eager to watch old Cuomo bouts even though he never had the same results. I loved his game. His footwork, his movement, etc...
So, not just who you like, but what about them attracts you to their game.

| Sherraine MacKay. She's one of the inspirations that helped me actually try fencing.

| i've only seen like one really important match, and thats the 97 world championships for foil; Young Ho Kim vs. Sergei Golubitsky. o man...golubitsy sounds like such an @$$ from people that went to his clinic. and in the match, he was, quoting the announcer guy, "trying to break kim's concentration" by claiming he had an injury to stop kim from winning. o my...and i didnt realize this and im buying his blade from LP. im going to have to burn it. |

Don't listen to him. I swear, that guy has no clue about what's going on...
I remember hearing him say 'Yes, I'm sure found the blade, and bang, on the riposte. He was so fast, you can't see it, even in the slow motion replay, but I'm sure he found it.'
It could be true that Golubitsky was stalling, but hey, competitors have to learn to deal with a variety of strategies and tactics both on and off the strip.
Oh, and thanks for reviving this thread...
A personal favorite of mine.
Any one else want to share who their favorite fencer is?
