| MS--Podzniakov, for consistency, intelligence and will to win, not to mention very clean, sharp foot- and hand-work.
Lukashenko for the reasons that WHTouche mentioned.
Tarantino and Montano for their footwork, intelligence and passion.
Nemscik for deceptively acute fencing, and for being a nice guy.
WS--Sada for her commitment, toughness and technical prowess.
Amelia Gaillard has exceptionally smooth footwork and is very, very quick.

| It has to be the brothers Jeannet, Pavel Kolobkov and Ulrich Robeiri for me.
Both Jeannet brothers are nothing short of inspirational. Fabrice in particular is one to watch.
After the Leipzig World Championships, I think Kolobkov's career crossed the boundary from "highly skilled pro" to "legend". We'll be reading about his life story in ten year's time...
Ulrich Robeiri has not achieved the same results as the above, but he is a brilliant epeeist - and hopefully one who we will see in the medals more often in years to come.

I think he has been Junior World Champion and Senior European Bronze medallist. He would have been one of the favourites for a medal in Sydney if he hadn’t, sadly, discovered health problems. Now he is based in the UK, where I have fenced him in competition twice (5-3 and 5-1). He never got out of 1st gear though. Everything he did was for a reason, was timed to perfection, and executed with total confidence in what he was trying to do. Watching him against the best British fencers he was in a different league, he did the simple things so well, could do any move in the book, and possessed the fastest parry I have ever seen. He gave opponents very few options and moved with authority, speed and measured precision. He never over complicated or rushed an action, and was seemingly incapable of not being elegant. Seemed like a decent bloke too.
Best British fencer I have fenced is James Beevers, but I was quite young. I havn’t fenced Kruse, but have enjoyed watching his footwork.
The best fencer I have seen on TV is Golubitsky and Sanzo (very predictable
p.s Wessells has lost it now I'm afraid.

| definately the jeannet (FRA) brothers - i got to 3-3 against jerome, then threw it away argh
for last years juniors, the best i fenced were:
reuben limardo (VEN): lost to him 5-4 in portugal, i never had a chance, once he got a hit up, there was no way it was ever not going to be a double...
frederick backer (NOR): very very nice fencer... doesn't seem too imposing on the piste, but i couldn't find a way through at all.
I seemed to fence vlad nickels (LUX) at every other competition, he was good fun, and pretty handy with a french grip...
I miss europe |

| Just a quick reminder...
We all know who the best fencers are. Kolobkov is obviously the best ME fencer, and has now achieved legendary status.
I want to know who your favorite is and why. I mean in soocer, Manchester United is the best team, yet, people love and root for other teams. So who do you root for? I mean, Jeannet (Fabrice) is incredible. He could be legendary in time, but I don't root for him. I don't 'like' him.
So, tell us, who are your personal favorites are, not merely who's the best.

| Then in that case, in mens epee, Bas Verwijlen. He was so close to beating pavel, and he hasn't really had the glory. He's got a cool style.

| achilleus, i'll have to take you to task about manchester united be even good at the moment, let alone the best. however, i'll let you off as you are american and may not be too au fait.
as for fave fencers, you have to admire kolobkov for his record alone: five times world or olympic champion; twice junior world champion; ten times in the top three over a sixteen year period. all in men's epee, surely the toughest weapon to get consistently good results in.
also i have seen a video of him against arnd schmitt and that was a mind blowing watch.
i have only seen one a grade live and that was some time ago, but i can still remember most of it. it featured some quality fencers: stralka, jacquet, imre, kaaberma. stralka beat jacquet 15-14 in the final and the tension was palpable. jacquet was the big crowd favourite and had a lovely graceful style.
domestically, my two favourite fencers would have to be james williams and greg allen. james had so much time and space to do things in and was awesomely fast and is a top man too.
greg fences at my club and is great epeeist and the best compliment anyone ever paid me in fencing was that i fenced a lot like him. if i could get half his results i would die happy. |

But I just wanted to try to include our some of european members a little more in the conversation.
So, who's the best football team right now? Is there one?

Milanoli is of course a good fencer, but you know, I hate his 'style.'

| I still pick Fabrice Jeannet - regardless of his results I enjoy watching his fencing. When he wants to be he can be extremely fast and fluid, although perhaps not as terrifyingly fast as some (Maxim Khvorost, for example - watch the ME WC 2003 final!!! )... |

the only reason he had a chance against kolobkov is because he let the director get to him.
now that i think about it, i like eric boisse's style more than fabrice (HIS style is nice and clean) but i fabrice is still my favourite..
so, i have another question: why are your favourite fencers your favourite?? is it because you like their style and want to emulate it or for some other reason?? |

I'm just not explaining myself I guess...
I thought I stated this was the point.
Your favorite fencers, and why.
I mean we all know whe the best are. It's cool if your fav is F. Jeannet or Kolobkov, but, (using a basketball analogy) the San Antonio Spurs are the best team, but not the fan favorites. In addition, their star player, Tim Duncan, isn't a fan favorite.

my question:what about the style you guys like and if you like them because their style is like yours or you want to implement elements of their game into yours..
not really the same question. |

Managed to beat charles st-hilare 5-3 in that poule, yet managed to monumentally **** up my bouts against my aussie and my nz and miss the cut |
