| Oriental SCA! Oriental style SCA
I found a link to some horrible oriental type play fighting. These guys are so off balance and are spinning around like monkeys and exposing their backs. http://www.internationalsportschanbara.net/class.html |

| In the first video it looked like the guy on the right got hit in the back 2 or 3 times when he dropped down really low in a failed attack, but it looked like they ignored those strikes in favor of a cut to the head.
I would think that a few strong cuts to the muscles of the upper back would be pretty damaging. Maybe not fataly but definetly imparing.
But then again they do refer to it as "play fighting"

know whats funny?
i did that for 2 or 3 years, along with kendo.
that why i went from U to B in about 6 months.
gg suckers
and to clarify, its not oriental sca. you can't really judge it until you try it. you guys looking at it and saying its not "real" is just like a historical or classical fencer looking at foil fencing pre-new timings and scoffing. |

| Why don't you just stop your BS noodles. It's obvious that you don't know jack about martial arts. You and your Oriental SCA slap fighting girlfriends and go back to fantasy land. |

These guys have no idea about defending themselves before hitting. They do complete spin arounds after they miss!

| ouch, mature.
these guys aren't really that bad. have you ever been hit by a spin kick? a spinning back fist maybe? have you even participated in more than like 4 years worth of actual martial arts? if yes, you'll know there's a reason for the occasional spin, so don't knock it.
but whats more likely is they knew they're being taped for the world to see and they wanted to "show off".
edited to add: there's even a pretty good chance these are what you might call "rehearsed", i was looking and i got the feeling a few of the actions were a bit prepared.

As for me, I have black belts in Karate, Taekwondo, Wing Tsun, Hapkido and Fukyeuniga. |

what flavor of karate? (and read my previous post edit) |

| I've got a green belt in TKD... its not worth anything. I did do some kung-fu and wing chun from a martial arts instructor by the name of zibin guo... it was very hard work. I feel however, that fencing's distance and timing, combined with a rudimentary knowledge of basic kicks, punches and strikes, plus the conditioning that fencing has given me, makes me atleast an acceptable fighter. The spinning and stuff in my opinion, is silly, because it exposes you... would you spin in fencing?

Forget it man. noodle just wants to defend the Oriental SCA dudes. A guy who really knows martial arts will know when to stop talking when he doesn't know what he is talking about. |

Originally Posted by D+F+P=Hadouken! alright... in a duel, with sharps, would you spin? | jesus tapdancing christ, these guys are NOT FIGHTING FOR REAL. what they are doing is similar to modern foil. there are rules in place and they're doing stuff that they would not do in a real fight in order to SCORE POINTS. just like spin kicks in modern circuit point sparring. i can't believe i'm really having this conversation on this board...
"if those foils were sharp and you flicked me, you'd be dead"
i know how to REALLY fight and i would never spin. i would never kick above the waist. but thats not what we're talking about. |
