    Mac competition software?

Hello. Does anybody know of or feel like writing an equivalent of En Garde for Mac OS X? I'm running a comp later in the year and don't want to get used to a PC! (Or trust one).

The author of fencingtime has told me personally that he's planning on porting fencing time to the Mac OS X. There's been enough requests for him to make the move. Look for it, oh, some time soon. Or so.

Yeah, Dan (the Fencing Time guy) & I have been thinking about porting FT to the Mac via Java for a while. I'm a big mac-head too, so I'd love to get FT onto our favorite fruit-flavored platform...

prob'ly not before the end of this season though.... sorry.

I know it isn't the best solution... but I've seen engarde running through virtual PC on a powerbook without a hitch... that might be something for you to check out.

Oh yeah, I should have said. That'd work for most any of the programs. I use VPC to run Fencing Time for testing over here....

A Mac version of Fencing Time is definitely planned at this point... however, it's not going to happen for a while since I still am adding a lot of new features to the PC version. I am currently restructuring the code so that it will be a lot easier to move to a non-Windows environment when the time comes.

I've had a lot of requests for a Mac version so it just is a matter of time... in the meantime you can (as Peet metioned) run Fencing Time under VirtualPC on the Mac...

Event though I'm definitely a Mac fan, I would love for Fencing Time to either
    A) Have the capability for seeding events using a points list (for example, our Section Circuit or regional RYC points) using user defined protocols for protection and so forth. To be really usefull it would need to incorporate multiple lists, with different protection protocols.

    or

    B) The capability to move fencers up and down OUTSIDE their letter and year ranking based upon a points list that is available on a piece of paper next to the computer.

A would be preferrable, B would work okay.

    *grin* Pretty please?

Oh, and I'd buy another copy of FT if it was released for the MAC even though I have a PC copy already.

I'm adding seeding using points lists to the next version. I haven't started that feature yet, so I haven't given much thought to how simple or complex I'll make it - I'll cross that bridge when I come to it!

This feature is actually already present... however I have since realized that I didn't make it nearly as accessible as I should have given how many people have asked for it!

Under the Tools->Preferences menu, on the "Fencing" tab, check "Allow Unrestricted Manual Seeding". That will allow you to move fencers up and down the seeding list without restriction so you can use a points list or other ranking sysem for seeding.

I'll be moving that option checkbox onto the seeding form so that it's far more accessible in the new version!

Man would that have made my life a lot easier this past weekend!

If you do that, then thats all that is needed, untill you can put in a fairly complex thing for seeding according to points lists. If you would like to see the protocols we use for the SSCC, I can send them to you.

I could help generate some funding for the project.

    Cheers

Well, Mac tournament software in general is what I had in mind. Let me take a look at this and see if there's any particular suggestions I can make.
