| Blade Sizes I'm rather new to fencing; I bought a second-hand foil and practiced with it often, and soon I'd like to invest in a new weapon. However, I have a question--what exactly entails each of the different blade sizes (0, 3, 5)?

| Assuming you're older than 12 years old, get a 5. If you're not, somebody else will have to fill you in on the details of what sizes are required for youth events. |

| any competition above y-12 requires a 5 size blade. i think 4 is for y-12 and 2 is for y-10 and the others are just there. i really dont know...so if you are under 12 i would suggest you either call the company and ask them or ask your coach. good luck |

Any others can use 5 blades, but are not required to so that Y12 and up can use a smaller blade if they choose.

| As far as sizes...the only one where the max length is actually specified is the #5...90cm from the point end of the weapon (this includes the point assembly, not just the blade itself) to the forward surface of the guard.
The #4 is GENERALLY 1 inch shorter than the 5, the #2 three inches...not sure about the #0....the numbers do NOTindicate a length in inches |

| Both the USFA and the British Federation are looking into defining what is a 0, 2 or 3 blade. Until then, it is a blade with a 0, 2 or 3 stamped on them.
