| With malice toward none, I find outbursts, vocal (e.g., screaming, shouting) or otherwise (e.g., clenched fist), an anathema to what fencing is all about. Yes, yes, there is the usual list of rationalizations (e.g., it pumps me up) that is used to justify the above. However, they run counter to an integral part of fencing as a sport, i.e., discipline, self-control, and common courtesy. As a real life example, I invite anyone who hasn’t so far, at the next opportunity, to watch John Moreau fence a bout. Great fencing, using an epee and not the mouth. |

I've heard him scream, giggle loudly, act in a rather inane (and very funny) fashion, use gamesmanship, and use any psychological trick on many occasions (all at national events). I have a great respect for him.
There are probably many examples of people who fit your ideal competitor, but he's not one I would use to support the epee vs. mouth debate...

| Silence is golden. Even more so with one light actions against your opponent.

| I'm completely silent until I'm in a really tough bout and I score a hard earned point or a really nice parry-riposte or an attack that hits without delay or something like that and then I go HEEYA!! (Hiiiiieeeeya) really loudly, it provided the crowd with lots of entertainment, another time, the best student fencer at my club was making this attack at me and I fleched in his preparation, and hit (he didn't) and I went "Oh YEAH!!!" That was kinda embarrassing...
The funniest kinds of yells/screams are the epeeist's HHIIIIEEEEEYA-GA-GA-GA-GA-GA-GA!! Or the sabereurs roaring at each other, that's pretty funny.
