Array Team Events I was wondering, since I've never been to one, how do team events/tournaments/whatever you want to call it work? "Never grow a wishbone, daughter, where your backbone ought to be." -

Array The basics:
USFA team tournaments are run in what they call "team relay" format. It works much like a foot race relay:
Three person teams with an optional fourth alternate (substitute). Each fencer on each team fences each fencer on the other team in a 5 touch bout. That's 9 bouts, for a total of 45 touches. Here's the catch though: In each bout, the fencers are fencing up to the next multiple of 5 touches. So, the fencer that starts the bout behind can make up the deficit, even though that's more than 5 touches.
Example:
In the third bout, we are fencing to 15. Imagine that at the start of the bout, my team is losing 10-4. If i'm better than the other fencer, i may be able to score 11 touches before he can score 5 (or three minutes expires).
Then, in the 9th bout, the first to 45 touches wins (or whoever's ahead when time expires).
