Array Last choice insinuates that my reasons are "stupid". Poll is therefore FLAWED. And rude. But mostly FLAWED. -

Array waited at the wrong strip at the NAC, got black carded, complained to bout committee, got overturned, fenced anyway, won the bout, everybody happy...so in the end, no black card but if i had been as little as one minute later, it would have remained.. -

Array I was black carded once; I appealed it to the bout committee and it was over turned.

A very careful and close reading of the rules is a very powerful tool!
(a law degree doesn’t hurt either)

Array Would that make what you do rules lawyering?
Also, where can I find you if I've been BC'ed at a national tourney? Do you charge a flat fee or a per hour one? The only way to atone for being occasionally a little over-dressed is by being always absolutely over-educated. -Oscar Wilde -

Array I was black carded only once. It was for behavior. It was the worst kind of behavior, tackling an opponent, punching and kicking him while on the floor, but at least it was at "nationals". I won't try to defend it, there is no defense. It was several years before I fenced again, before I was was confident that I was "stable" enough to play without losing my mind. I had to take a long look at what I had become and what fencing had become to me. I was not having fun. My opponents were not having fun, and no good official enjoys (despite what others in some of these forums might say) being forced to discipline a person (fencer, parent, coach, etc.) by exclusion.
I still like winning. Now that I have my self under control, winning comes a lot easier. It (winning) is no longer the be-all and end-all of my fencing experience. It should not take that kind of experience to make a person realize what they are doing, what they have become. I will always look back at that incident with disgrace and horror. In the future I will always be a "sportsman" or, if I can't be a sportsman, I just won't play.

You have my utmost respect for your candor and honesty but more importantly for the mental slap upside the head you gave yourself that resulted in a great attitude adjustment.
Welcome back - if you ever make it to PA I'd love to cross swords with you. You're just jealous because the voices only talk to me -
Received one as part of a team for fencing out of order. (It was the other two, not me)
Wasn't a USFA event, so wasn't clear on proper appeals. -

Array Wow. I think the most I've ever done is to boot my mask -I've done some pretty good kicks but, still, I've never been b-carded.
Apart from bad language, I think that cards against shouldn't be awarded unless the violence (verbal or physical) is directed towards someone else. For example, calling myself a twit is understandable; but to insult (or assult) someone else is something else entirely.
P.S. Joe B - well done for realising your mistakes, chapeau (hats off) for being so honest, and welcome back -

How much more violent can you get than attacking someone with a sword?? You're just jealous because the voices only talk to me -

Array I have never received a black card and I am proud to say that in my 5 yearsof coaching not a single one of my fencers has either... -

Array My old club had a rule about its members receiving a Black Card. Once you get one, you don't come back to the club. Similar Threads -
