[CFML] Advance warning.... At the same time Jared was organizing the Lansing conference--and as Ken
Mondschein is putting together a meeting in Kalamazoo--a decision was made to
issue a call for papers for a collection of diverse essays that would attract the
highest quality scholarship from both fencing researchers and non-fencing
historians in a variety of sub-fields relevant to the art. The announcement,
which will be distributed as a Word file attachment because it lays the objectives
of the volume out, specifies submission schedules and submission format, and
describes a peer-review process intended to guarantee the best out there and
encourage divergent points of view and critical thought. It also strongly
endorses the agendas developed by Jared and in Ken's hopper. It's hoped we can
supply a benchmark and help create a genuine community of inquirers, and that
potential contributors will take active part in all three endeavors. The call
for essays will be distributed internationally. You can expect the first
edition of it in your mailboxes before the weekend's over.

Re: [CFML] Advance warning.... This sounds like a peer reviewed journal on the history of fencing. How does
this differ from Spada, the journal published by Chivalry Bookshelf (a new
issue of which will be out this Christmas)? As the editor of Spada, I doubt
that there's enough interest, from researchers or from potential buyers to
support two peer reviewed journals in this area, though I'd be happy to be
proved wrong on that score.

Re: [CFML] Advance warning.... I believe it is going to be more academic in nature, and that it is going
to be a single-volume anthology, not a periodical.
