coaches fees

The Dept. of Sports and Recreation in my town is planning to start a fencing program in our community. They are looking for someone who would teach fencing 3 hours a day, 5 days a week, for $480 a month with a minimum of 16 students.
The town would supply some equipment, but they didn't say exactly how much and they would give the coach a place to practice, a basketball court outdoors.
I don't know how much coaches make, and I know that some people coach for nothing because they love the sport, but putting all of that aside, does this sound like a reasonable offer compared to what other coaches are making?

Works out to 8$/hour. What is the minimum wage in that jurisdiction?

Have a nice time!

Hey Pete,
I'm writing from Puerto Rico and the min. wage here is the same as it is in the States.
Your right it does work out to be 8 bucks an hour, but it's also comes to 50 cents an hour per student. I thought fencing coaches made more than that per students per hour.

The space is outdoors? What if it rains?

I think the major killer there is the fact that it is outdoors. I do not know about the popularity of fencing in Puerto Rico, but I do know that it isn't too hard to find a coach willing to help students even for free when it comes for fencing. Perhaps it depends on how much fencing is in your area though.

I'm not worried about the rain, I'm more concerned about how the drug lords are going to respond to having a group of people with swords taking over their turf at night. lol

In the fall at my highschool, while its still warm, we practiced on the tennis courts. when doing push up it made sure you would do them right or you would drown.

I think I'm the only one in my town who knows how to fence, which doesn't say much about the fencing pool in my area. lol
