| need help finding the right blade for me ok, ive been having trouble finding a good blade for myself. i started using BG blades but 2 of em broke in a month, i tried SG, but one broke in a week and the other is about to snap, and i tried a chevalier but it broke in a month. Ide like to try a blade that is durable, after durable ide like it to be light, also not too stiff. How are uhlmanns? |

With respect, if you are breaking blades at that clip it may be the way you are fencing rather than any innate fragility of the hardware: too close, hitting to hard, etc., or against opponents who are trying to bind unskillfully. I usually don't lose that many blades in 2 years ( sabre blades, S+M or Fleche ). |

As far as BG and SG blades go their both Junk. I whould avoid them.
Uhalmanns blades are BF's and BF's are pretty stiff blades, much more so then the flimsy BG and SG's your used to, but their quality is good.

| The "new" vnitis are certainly not heavy, and thats compared to a FIE STM - Not the heaviest blade around by anymeans!

For a little over a regular uhlmann, you could get an FIE blade, which is probably a better choice. |

| Agreed. For foil there aren't any options that are both cheap and good. Go for a decent maraging blade. It pays off in the long run.

| about the maraging stm's...how would you describe the weight of it, how is the flexibility, and when buying the blade from the fencing post what color does it come in(or can you pick the color?) |

| Hmmm.. Weight. Its lighter than an FS maraging, a tiiiny bit heavier than most BFs. While fencing with it, you will not think "heck, this is heavy!" - I'm a weakling, and my arm never gets tired.
Colour? Don't know about the fencing post. I assume you can choose colour - they come in Standard silver, Rainbow effect (With various degrees of such effect), metallic blue (Its a shiny metal blue, like a blue maglite torch) and gold - I have gold.
The rainbow/blue/gold apparently slow down corrosion. Look better, too.
Its decently flexible. Its not a super whippy piece of string, but its not a crowbar. You can flick with it, and parry riposte fast with enough authority - It will wobble around in flight a bit though. They start off a bit stiff, but soon lose that aspect, and go to the flexibility first described.

| BG & SG have some marketing connection and I am pretty sure that the BG & SG blades are the same.
If you are going through blades like you say, even the BG's, then you are right to conclude that it is time to spend some money on a maraging blade.
As far as durability in maraging blades goes, the Vinitis and the BF blades seem to get the highest marks.
Note that Viniti did redesign its blades in '04 to make them a bit lighter and more flexible at the start. I am not sure where the cutoff is but the blades marked 9/04 are definitely the new design and any blade with '03 or earlier is definitely the older design. There are some marked 2/04 (?) that I am not sure of, but I believe those are the older design too.
As far as the BF blades go, the white blade is the stiffest (stiffer & heavier than the Vniti). I think it is a bit heavier, but more durable than the BF colored blades.
Both blades are well made, but the Vnitis cost less than the BF blades. Price aside, either would be a good choice depending upon what you wanted in a blade. If price is most important, then bewteen the two, go with the Vniti.

They aren't really all that colored. |

| From what I've heard, BF seem to be a popular blade amongst at least a few high level fencers, people like Joppich, Cassara. I was wondering why?
Super 'BF' - Is this a BF white?
Super 'BF' blue - what does the "super" mean?
Allstar Ecoline 'VN' - does VN mean Vniti?
What is the colour thing all about?
You can get a BF blade from Leon Paul... does anyone know what type it is? If there's no colour specified do you just assume that it's a white?
Thanks dudes
