| You forgot to mention the great all-surface traction, great durability, and great support.

| I haven't tried the Stabil's yet, maybe next time I need shoes. I recently picked up a pair of these ( http://www.shoes4-us.com/product_dis...?sku=onsh20433). They are really comfortable and work great. As good as any pair of fencing specific shoes I've had. |

After using them for a couple of months, I started to get a bad case of shin splints. Since I have started using another pair of shoes, I don't get them anymore. But YMMV, everyone's feet are different and I see a lot of people fencing in those.

Originally Posted by WhipLash how would they compare to fencing specific shoes like d'arts II? i'm going to get my first pair soon and trying to decide what to get | My youngest son had the d'ats II. His foot is wide and rolls a bit to the outside and because of this the d'asts II's did not give him enough lateral support. The Stabil 5's are great for this but are heavier than the d'arts II to accomplish it. That said, they are nonetheless lighter than a cross-trainer and their soles give much better grip on gym floors (where he does most of his fencing) than any fencing shoe, Adidas or otherwise. If that is the kind of suface you fence on, consider the Stabil 5 or any other indoor court shoe.
