Oh no someone said something not at all offensive about me on a message board I better register for the sole reason of getting all huffy about it.
Idiot.

Also, how the victory happened dosn't matter, just that it happened. *Why* it did or did not happen is an internal thing. I don't know how much better he is in terms of fencing, since I was epee-watching, but he does seem to be twice the man you are. |

| not that this comment hasn't been beaten to death, and perhaps it was due to misunderstanding. However, in theory (hopefully men's didn't have the kind of gaps and missing teams women's epee did) each fencer has fenced equal numbers of bouts at any time they fence eachother. Ie- your 7th is their 7th as well (no brainer). And we are ALL tired, hurting, feeling old injuries and new ones (I slept with a bag of ice and 4 advil Saturday night) by the time day two rolls around.
I didn't see anyone bouncing around and feeling "fresh and minty clean" come the individuals. And when you get a second chance at a bout, things can change. Significantly. And hey, if you're lucky, you'll end up fencing someone three times, and then... well, things STILL change. But everyone has bouts they regret the outcome of, or things they'd change time two.
I just find injury a poor reason to get angry at someone and claim that things would have been different. Cronic back problems = there pretty much all the time when you fence. Why would it be different at any event?
And none of this is said to be particularly nasty or mean, but I'm puzzled by the reasoning the said post, and it's not the first time I've heard that kind of reasoning. It'd be like me saying "if I didn't have bad knees and ankles, and if *I* was 6'8" like you, you wouldn't have stood a CHANCE!" |

Hey, look folks--it's just a game. It's not like they're going to take away your birthday or anything.
Play. Enjoy. Then let it go.

And I tell my upcoming epeeist that suck only applies to fencing days. I figure as long as you're learning, you've got to be (however slowly) getting better, and that means you don't suck. The only people I know who suck are the ones who can't learn/won't learn so they stagnate and never change. |

I've got knee problems. I was walking with noticable discomfort after the first day. When we got to the Olive Garden for dinner, I had to order two bags of ice with dinner. you know why I didn't mention that when I was taking responsibility for my 7 losses? because they're chronic! I deal with them. would I do better if I didn't have them? maybe. But, since I know I do have them, it's part of my job to be ready to deal with them. It is similarly part of your job to be ready to deal with recurring back issues. you didn't. so you lost.
that said, so what? you won when it counted (team), and TotD was simply lamenting the fact that he DIDN'T win the one that counted. it wasn't disrespectful to you.

and all you others who felt so obligated to put your two cents in, i wasnt making excuses, i probably just misread his comment as to him saying i got lucky or something (which apparently he wasnt). and anyways **** off, its a game. maybe we southerners be just rowdier than ye yankees.
and yes whoever said, "hes twice the man i am", youre probably right, i can be a little ***** |

| South Carolina tried really really hard not to be Yankee-ish. I mean, didn't you hear about the whole Confederate Flag thing?
but i guess that just doesn't mean much anymore......

| This reminds me of when the UMass "Yankees Suck" cheer was misenterperted by... someone from Clemson, I think...
Rest assured, we were referring to our sports rivals and not being all self-hating and emo. |

| Is there any information on what date the 2006 event is scheduled for? I'm trying to plan some stuff for next season for our region, and want to avoid that date as much as possible. |
