    police

    Hey,

Any fencers out there in the criminal justice field? I wonder what the odds are for getting fencing in the police olympics...you know, along with the doughnut toss, and the fifty yard dash without spilling your coffee. Just a thought.

    Well wishes

Is there a national police olympics? I've seen them by state. Are only sworn offices able to compete? Could you image recruiting based on sports ability? You know those bacon bowl football games? Sometimes I wonder if they don't just hire some of the players. I've seem them huge.

I think fencing would be a great traiing regime for law enforcement.

Actually, I've only seen them by state also. I'm not sure but I think if your employed by a law enforcement agency you may compete. From personal experience I feel that Fencing training compliments law enforcement training..split second tactical thinking while staying a move ahead, moving very quickly from a stand still, and over all dexterity. the bladed stance I take while doing field interviews with suspects is really a modified engaurd. I think my department is the only law enforcement agency that has it's own fencing club. I started it as a community service,(with a grant for equipment) for youths of the community who aren't interested in average school sports. It's doing pretty well. I even have some parents training along side their children. Walter, and Phillip of TCA have helped out alot also with the equipment. I highly recommend them

A late 70's early 80's female foilist, Connie Handleman, was also a police officer. She'd show up at club in her police uniform, change, and go at it with the boys (and girls). She fenced at Halberstadt in SF. She's still partially involved in fencing, as her nephews are now competing.
