    Fencing.Net Summer Nationals Party!!!

Okay, now that we have the schedule we should start looking at a good date for our get together.

    7/4 (Wednesday) has Men's Epee Div2, Men's Foil Div1 team, Men's Saber Veteran and U-19 Team, Women's Epee Veteran and DivI team, Women's Foil Div2, Women's Saber U-19

Thursday 7/5 - Saturday 7/7 don't look all that good especially because I know there is a lot of other stuff going on those nights as well.

    Sunday 7/8 looks good with Men's Epee Div1 team and Y-14, Men's Foil Div2 and Y12, Men's Saber DivIII and U16, Women's Epee Div3 and U19, Women's Foil Div1 and Y14 and Women's Saber Div3 and Y10.

I am thinking Sunday is looking the best but maybe we should take a poll and see what days most everyone will be here in Sacramento.

I also need to know what you all are wanting to do. I can set up a dinner somewhere or if it is mostly adults we can do the bar thing. If you want a dinner, what price range are we looking at? etc.

Is this an informal fencing.net readers, or is this a real, live party for all fencers? The reason I ask is because there's quite a bit of logistics involved between the two. Sure, you can do a pub crawl with the fifteen or so folks who read and post here regularly (maybe Chris from your club can't join us for such a crawl), but it's another thing to prepare for a party for 4000 fencers, referees, parents, SOs, and staff people.

    Not gonna do it.
Wouldn't be prudent at this juncture.

Would be fun to put a face on the posts. I'm in.

I'll be there over that weekend-- I haven't decided yet whether I want to work armory the whole thing or save vacation days for other stuff.

The whole party idea came about some time ago when we all started talking that it would be nice for us regulars on Fencing.Net to meet in person. A party at Nationals was the best solution as more people than not would likely be coming. If this is still something everyone wants to do, we should start talking about the date and what type of party we want. I know there are several kids on this board also that is why I suggested a dinner. But we all fence different weapons and divisions and it will be a bit tricky to coordinate a date when most will be here. If everyone has seen the schedule, just post here with the dates you will be here if interested in doing this and I will figure out the best date to do the party. I will find a restaurant that we can have a dinner and do some in person socializing.

If no one is really interested that's fine too.

I think it'll be a great idea. We'll have a big honking dinner, get the kids sleepy, put them to bed, then go out and razz Gray Davis' home for the brilliant way he's handling the energy situation. Maybe we'll all moon the gov's mansion.

Seriously, I'd love the idea. I'm close enough that I can come for any night, even though I doubt I'll be in Sacramento the whole week. (Why did they not go weekend to weekend? For a nine-day fest, weekend to weekend means only four weekdays off. Now, it'll be six, since we don't count the Fourth.)

How about the Saturday night? That's about the hump day for the nine-day extravaganza, so most people will be around then. I don't think too many fencers here on the board are Div I level fencers (gathering from their posts), so they're not likely to be around the first few days, which will be the Div I events.

Saturday is the night for the Hall of Fame Dinner so I don't think that is a good night.

If the fencers here want to get good, they will bring themselves and their video cameras to the Div 1 competitions if at all possible.
Having some tape of great fencers to emulate and compare is INVALUABLE in training.

    Hey

Why don't we set up a fencing.net cork board so we can leave photos of ourselves so we can at least look up people as they bop around the site, and annoy them to our heart's content.

Actually, we could do an impromptu photo board on-line. Click on the "UBB Code is ON" link next to the editing window when you post and scroll down to the Adding Images instructions to see how to do it. Then just put a .jpg on you server that you can link to.

I can't make it to Nationals this year. Spent all my money on a book launching party in January.

Take lots of pictures & someone MUST tell the unfortunate souls who missed the party (like me) all about it!
