Im new to fencing, and need help picking a blade size.

Hey everyone. Well, I just joined my schools fencing team last week and I need to buy my gear. My coach instructed me to go onto Blue Gauntlet and buy a beginner's foil set, plus under arm protection. Now, I know from trying other kids gear on what size jacket, mask, and glove I need. But I have no clue what size blade. it gives me the options of 0, 2, 4, and 5. I don;t know what the difference is, so please give me your recommendation as to what blade size is best for a begginner.

um.
you seem to have good grammar and sentence structure. i therefore assume you are at least around the age of 13.
pick size 5.
5 is full size, smaller numbers mean shorter blades.

younger fencers are required to use the shorter blades at certain youth events. you can use a shorter blade than size 5 if you want, but most people use 5's

Thank you very much. I'm actually 16, so yes, I'll go ahead and purchase the 5.

Good call Noodle! Amazing how you almost nailed the age bracket. Remind me never to fence you as you could probably figure out my fencing style by looking at my shoe.

All joking aside, I am impressed.

thanks, i suppose
i was going to say age 15 but for some reason that struck me as too high of a guess and that i should lower it some. should've gone with my initial insticts.
