| This is a blind poll, btw... so you can vote for fencers other than Tamir.
The only thing you have to fear is fear itself!

| Can you put in a little info/resume paragraph for how each one made it onto your list? |

| Yes, But that would take a little time to do a fair job.
Obviously most of these guys have all been on multiple National Teams and most have been on Olympic Teams.
I was hoping that most everyone would remember (at least heard of) these guys.
If you are really interested, we could put something a little more professional together.

I haven't heard Tris' name in years...
Good though he was, he's not in the same caliber as the others mentioned.
That said, are we voting on results? Or personality? Or a combination? I mean, if we use a combination, T's automatically out. Results, Tris is automatically out.
Hm...

Hm... | There was a time when Tris was a pretty good fencer.
I'm pretty sure he won an NAC in the early 90's, he for sure medalled in a few. He put Cuomo out of the Paris WC one year... To make the 32 (or was it the 64). Either way it was a good American Result for the time. His results were extremely good for not being at the AC or Santelli's back then.
He did beat Tamir a number of times, which was always funny.
I don't know if we are voting on results, personality, or both... Usually Allstar voting is more than a little bizzare, so I didn't specify.

And Tamir was on his way up, not yet the fearsome juggernaut he became. And that whole lefty, lefty thing is just weird... Quote: |

Just curious if you had anything specific in mind...

So, you know it hurt his feelings a little. I find that funny.

| I have fenced Tris a couple of times, and although he definitely was past his prime when I fenced him, I enjoyed the bout very much. He made me earn my touches, which at the time and place I was fencing at was already good enough for me.
I choice went to Jon Normile. Haven't fenced him, but I have heard enough of him to know that he would be my top choice.
But I would have liked to be able to pick more than one (maybe 2 or 3 more). I know that you can't do that with these polls, so it had to be one. |

| Jon Normile is a 3x National Epee champ., and former Olympic Team member. I cannot recite his WC record off the top, he he made decent results over the years, I seem to recall.
In the 90's, I think he has to be considered the winner based on sum achievement. I hv fenced him, and can say that he is a clean, fast, intelligent guy on the strip, and all that focus work Aladar teaches, I believe, has given him an ability to fence in the moment.
The only critique I've heard of Jon's game is that it lacks creativity. Comment came for a former Olympic guy who's been around the US national, intl and NY fencing scene for 2+ decades.
In epee, I guess you really need panache!
Normile is known to be a very decent person who is happy to give developing fencers a thought or two on his philosophy on the sport. All around, reportedly a vy good guy.

Hm...
Seriously, Jim is a great guy. Used to have a killer back flick...

| And he still knows his way around the beer stein . But also the epee well enough to repeatedly beat the pants off everyone in the SWS. And his students do pretty well too...
The Rose Condon this weekend in Shreveport should be interesting...
Jim Carpenter
Tamir Bloom
Jon Normile
There's three from that list right there, plus a host of supporting characters!

| There was a similar thread about the 80's...
I'm pretty sure that Stull ended up in that thread.
Ben Atkins? - Well... hmm... I guess he didn't make the cut :-)
