Automatic Qualifiers to Summer Nats

I was looking at the Junior WS auto qual list and I saw that Emily and Mariel were listed. They were both born in 1985. Wasn't the last comp they could fence Jos?

The USFA must have executed the query to generate the autoqualifier list from the database before they ran the routine to cleanse the database for fencers ineligible for Summer Nationals U-16 and U-19 events. As I recall, the point standings are not changed and cleansed from Cadet and Junior to U-16 and U-19 until AFTER JWC.

Depends on when in 1985 they were born, I think. I was born in June of '85, so I'd probably be ineligible for the U19 nationals since I'd be 20 by the time they rolled around. If they were born later, they can go. I think, anyway. I'm not clear on the rule for that.

Welted,
all that matters for eligible age is the year... month or day has no bearing...

so someone born one second before midnight on new years eve has an 'extra year' in each age group when compared with someone born two seconds later... but you have to cut somewhere.

Actually, it is the USFA rule for the year only -- actual FIE rule is as long as you are Under 20 before the first day of the JWC. Both Mariel and Emily have early year birthdays before JWC, so it wouldn't matter anyway.

A quick glance at the autoqualifier list shows a number of inaccuracies. For example, its shows only 18 Y14 men epeeists autoqualified, but 32 qualified just at the NAC A in Atlanta. A 14 year old in our division is on the Y10 epee list. My daughter actually shows up as autoqualified in an event that doesn't exist.

I'm sure there's plenty of time for this all to sort out.

Other way around. The earlier born is older and has chewed up an entire year in the course of those two seconds.
