For example, it's much easier to keep new aircraft under cover out at Dreamland when the public is quite convinced that the base out at dried-up Groom Lake is housing aliens and their spaceships...and that the whirling glowing lights they saw at night are spacecraft, not an early prototype of the Comanche.
