I just heard from my coach that Rene Roch has admitted that the new timings aren't working and that changes will be made at the next FIE Congress. I don't know anything more, but I'll find out more tomorrow.
So what about these hit testers from LP. I was told that new timing ones were coming out. So it seems that LP has started manufacturing testers for the new timing, but the new timing might be adjusted? Maybe LP has made 'em so they can just be altered???
And the boxes... OK, it might have been generally accepted that the changes would stay, but what about adjustments???

Dose anyone know when the next FIE congress will be?
Can he reverse the stupidity on the clear masks next???
See my post in the 'Compulsory use of visor mask ...'. The German President sent the FIE President a letter, that said he committed a foul. The Executive Committee had no right to put that rule in without approval of the Congress.

Susan,
Thanks for the info. Let us know if you hear more.
I'd very much like to jump for joy... but are you 100% positive? because as is, I see speculation on all sides and very little released facts.
Last night I was missing the old timings a little bit. But it may be too soon to jump for joy...
If sloper's info is correct, and if the FIE document is correct, then so far we know that in about a year something undisclosed will happen regarding the timings. Roch has already said as much, so AFAIK there's no new info.
Putting aside the annoyance of refitting the boxes with yet a THIRD setting, I'm curious about whether the Italian proposal is a nice middle ground.
just to note, since it hasn't already been explicitly stated here yet: these timings aren't going away. yeah, they'll change and tweak them, but they're not going to remove them and go back to what it used to be.

Fine by me.
Glad my school hasn't had our boxes upgraded yet.

I read the letter my coach got from Rene Roch tonight. Arkady's convinced that it means that Roch has agreed that the timings must change, but I think he's being too optimistic about the letter's contents. The letter was a response to another letter written weeks ago and signed by the 2004 sabre olympic medalists and their coaches complaining about what the new lockout times are doing to sabre fencing.
Instead of agreeing to change the timings, I read Roch's letter as saying nothing will change until the next FIE congress in November. At one point, he says he agrees with the proposal (to increase the lockout time in sabre), but in the next paragraph he says something about agreeing to _discuss_ changes at the appropriate time. It seemed like a pretty sneaky letter to me, and he's left himself a bunch of wiggle room. On the other hand, I could be reading things into what is probably a translation from French.
Sorry to have spoken too soon. Maybe we should just consider this letter more evidence that the status quo cannot stand. That's the good news. The bad news is Roch is saying there will be no official action for eight months. So I guess we shouldn't hold our collective breath. But, then again, maybe the new letters from the Italians and Germans about foil will force things along. Here's hoping.
