| way to expensive! This is way to expensive, 60 $ for a foil beeper? 40 $ for an epee beeper?
I'll think I will make my own... with a switch for the old and new foil timings.
But the metal case is nice, I suppose. |

| If you've got a soldering iron, you could make one for a few pounds / dollars.
I know someone who bought a similar device recently and his complaint was that it only had one frequency of buzz. It meant that if two people had the same device it wasn't imediately obvious who made the hit. Two tones would make it easier to tell.

| Not only are they expensive, but they can get hit if you're using them for epee (in my experience), which is probably not too healthy. Besides, you can make your own - a friend has made a foil tester, and he is in the process of modifying it so that it can detect on and off target hits. The materials cost him about 20 euros (roughly the same in dollars, I think), and he has enough materials to make several now. |

| I like the clear pad on that page...

| I have on of the epee buzzers (same design, different vendor) and it has proved usefull for coaching. I was trying to explain to one of my fencers that her hand hits were all flat. So I plugged in the buzzer to her weapon and it was immediately clear which hits were good and which were not. The immediate feedback really gave her confidence in her hits.
I've also used it for 'poor man's electric epee'. Doesn't lock out doubles, but it works well enough and is a lot easier than draging out all the boxes & reels for the last 30 minutes of practice. |

| Our xclub uses these as traiing aids and to help warm up at events and even sometimes drill in odd places like hotels were a box is not available.
I'd love tosee disign drawings/infrmation for anyone who has buklt there own as it woudl save our club a lot ofMoney inthelong term. My e-mail is matt.hite@amaisd.org. |

If it can be done I'd love to see it.

I've been working on this for a few months now as a final year electronic engineering project and finally have something that "works". Still a few bugs to work out but fingers crossed for the next couple of weeks and some testing |

| On what basis does your system works? The wireless Sabre system uses transfer of charge, but I'm thinking that detecting a frequency put on a conductive surface would be a lot simpler. I don't know if it work with the available contact time (2 ms for sabre & epée - if I'm correct, and nowadays 15 ms for foil)
Unfortunaly, I'm a little bit short in measuring equipment, but hopefully this will change in the future. |

| I've been using the one from FencePBT that works for both epee and foil. Because you connect it to a body cord, it doesn't get in the way of wrist shots. You can then put it in your pocket, but I don't think it's loud enough, so I tuck in the back of my collar.

| Our club sells a device very similiar to the PBT one, only a bit better because of the lights and not having to switch between foil and epee. It has some great features such as:
1. Use whatever style of body cord you prefer, from Bayonet, two prong or epee.
2. In addition to the buzzer it also has a red and green LED light.
3. In addition to training it can be used to test body cords, foils and epees for function, travel, grouding etc.
4. It is much cheaper than the PBT or LP ones at only $18.00!
As far as drawbacks, it does have one and that is that the buzzer only goes off for as long as you hold the tip down (just like the PBT one). We love them at the club because they last forever on a single battery, are great for training and as stated before can be used as a poor mans epee scoring system. Best of all they also let you tune up and diagnose your weapons. All for about the price you would pay to build your own, if you are like my and put soldering right up there with dental drills and DMV lines. If anyone is interested let me know. I am sure the club has a few in stock and they would be happy to sell them to the public.
