When I was fifteen in grade nine. I got all my aquaintances to come. I was in a new school. I opted out from golf. We hardly had protection, and used rusty old 1979 LP blades and masks. I at first did not know attack and only parried and retreated.

I started as a kid, and am still fencing. I've enjoyed competition for about 35 years and still I'm jealous of people starting in their fortys and fifties. They have the same passion as any beginner with more working parts.
I'm a foil fencer, and I can change, if I have to, I guess.

I first picked up a foil at 13, but really started training at 15-16.

I started fencing epee as a freshman when I was 14 but I wasn't too competative until the next year. Now I'm 18 and I've stuck with epee since day one

I was originally looking into learning Kendo. I couldn't find a place to take it up locally. I was flipping through the catalouge for my college when I happened upon fencing. Different kind of sword, but I figured it was worth a look. Year and a half later, I'm still into it.

i'm going to ask you nicely now. please stop doing this. we don't want to have 30,000 old threads at the front of our forum because you feel the need to comment on every thread made in the last month without using vowels.

Compared to other forums I'm on, this isn't nearly as high traffic, and posting to the same thread within one month of the last post is almost invariably the right thing to do there. I see no reason for it to be different here. The real problems are the year old threads.

no one. i was asking nicely. not deleting the thread or the like.

and it's not really two weeks old, the thread was originally posted a long time ago.

and he or she revived a bunch of other threads, this happened to be the one i posted in.

(okay, looking back on it, i was a little bit wrong to post in this case. but as i said, this was not the only thread revived by the same person in the course of a day.)

I was 26 and attended fencing classes at a local junior college; the program long since gone belly up. My son was 8 and has been trained under a competent coach at a private club for a number of years. Needless to say, he enjoys beating up his dad on occasion. I love it.
Passion is to be encouraged. Rudeness is unacceptable.

Started when I was 24, been doing it for about 15 months now. Why did I pick fencing? Actually I wanted rowing, but the club had closed, so I said "ok, I'll go fencing then". and I really like it.

I started when I was 19, a freshmen in college. I started by taking the beginner fencing class offered by the university and have been fencing ever since. The ironic thing is that I now teach the beginner class for the university.

Good choice. No-one has ever been drowned on the strip.
