| Just starting with electric, need advice I've been going dry for about a year and a half now, but I'm getting to the point where I need to start getting my electric stuff. After shopping around I have found that SG fencing seems to have the best prices and isn't to much of a drive for me. Does anyone here have experience with them?
My priorities with buying equipment are one good weapon, one mediocre weapon, and everything else being around middle of the line since I am just starting out. I've picked up a BF blue maraging epee, a Vniti maraging foil, and I'm still looking for the other stuff. Does anyone have advice on mid-priced lame and weapons? Is there anything in particular I should look for in terms of quality? And finally is there much difference in the longevity of body cords?
I haven't gotten into sabre yet, although I'm looking forward to it. I haven't found the time and budget to go there yet. So I don't need advice on that yet.
Thanks for your help.

| I like StM blades, but that's a personal preference. You'll want a stainless steel lame, as they last much longer and take washing better. That means not Blue Gauntlet, I understand. thefencingpost.com has a cheap stainless lame.
As far as body cords go, I'm a little unsure. I bought some very cheap (12.50) ones from Physical Chess, and they have needed care within a month. I hear Negrini makes some absolute amazing ones, have one on order. We'll see. Can't say much about anything else, other than learn to fix them yourself, it's quite easy. |

| Has anyone had any experience with those low cost sabre or foil lames from the fencing post, JL washable I think they call them? I was thinking of ordering one so any insight into whether they fit loose or snug would be welcome. How is the durability? Are they stainless steel weave? |

| The JL lames from TFP are stainless steel. Previous posts indicate that they hold up reasonably well (for the price). From what I have seen they seem to run a bit on the trim side.
One thing you want to consider when ordering body cords is what the majority of your club mates use (usually either two prong or LP bayonet). It's much easier to borrow a spare if you use the same as everyone else. On the other hand if you use something unique then people are less likely to pick them up by accident.
Better quality body cords generally prove themselves to be worth the price over time. |

Are they stainless steel weave? | The fencing post website says they are stainless steel and they are cheap but the durability is extremly bad. I had one a while ago, it looked pretty good and fit well, the cut was similar to Uhlman lames, but it started turning slightly green around the neck and upper chest area after about a month and went compleatly dead in those spots with in three months. When it started to turn green I tried washing it but it didnt help. Save your money and go with a better more expencive brand. |

| I'm sorry to hear that. Especially since I really don't have the money for Uhlmann or Allstar right now. Have you posted to the product reviews? |

Which really isn't that bad, I don't think.
It is true that they are made for people on the skinnier side, although not overly so. Certainly more than blue gauntlet. |
