| Rose Condon I went to the Rose Condon over the weekend and thought it was exactly how an event should be held.
I even wrote my thoughts about it in my personal blog.
Was anyone else there? Did you enjoy as much as I did?

| Yes I too thought the event was very well run. However, the fawning over Matt Zich is rather annoying. He even has his own picture section on the ALM division website. |

| haha, i saw this and i thought it said "rose comdom" and i was liek "omfgwtfbbq rose condoms???? me want!" so i went into the thread and it said "Rose condon" so i was liek "omfgwtf i want sum rose condoms, not this stuff!" so i went to the nearest 7-11 and asked if they had any rose condoms and they said "no" so i was like "wtf" so i started yelling and getting all mad and i told all the customers that they dont sell rose condoms in that 7-11 and that is unamerican so they were like "omg" and everyone left and boycotted 7-11 which sucks because i like their slurpees and i found out i was addicted to them and because i couldnt drink them i was on the floor shaking and i was like "so cold, so cold, need slurpeeeeeeee" and i kept doing that for like 4 weeks until the boycott succeeded and 7-11 started selling rose condoms and i was like "yay" and i bought like a million of them and then i hooked the slurpee machine up to an IV that went directly into my arm and then i almost died from intense brain freeze. |

| I didn't attend/compete, but Non Panchan road there with some of our fencers. I wish I could have heard the conversations *sigh*. Non might come to help coach at some of our high level summer camps this year! I need to look at the results on AskFred.... |

| The Rose Condon has become one of the top events of the Southwest Section in recent years, certainly. It has a fantastic organizing crew and a great set of people behind it. People from all over the SWS and beyond attend on a regular basis. It is one of the anchors of the Southwest Section Circuit Cup as well. The organizers of SSCC events have put together a pretty comprehensive set of operations for how a tournament "should" be run, based in no small part on what they do at the Rose Condon.
In a nutshell, do your registration in an efficient manner, hire good referees and pay them well, attend to the proper protocols for the Technical Committee, get good armours, and take the time over several years to build up a good reputation.
If you from outside the Southwest Section and liked the Rose Condon, check out the other events of the SSCC - the final one of this season is in Dallas, March 19th and 20th - the North Texas Grand Prix. |

| The Rose was a very good tournament. Even driving back to Austin, we managed to get home before midnight. Hooray for decent end times, even with an Epee event last. (Ok, so we started leaving after Round of 16.)
Whatever is said about Zich, the final bout in Sabre was really nice. I've never been to a bigger tournament than a SSCC, so maybe a NAC is better, but that was a very nice bout. Men's Foil was even better. OMG Wow. Lenny was so out done it was amazing. I wish I'd seen Non fence James Lo, though, I missed that bout.
I feel good I got 2 touches on Zich in pools, it makes it effectively the same as my coach (who went down 15-6) |

| Im not saying anything against Zich, I'm talking aout the fawning over him. Did anyone happen to see Mr. Zich slam his sabre in disgust down onto the strip after a call that went against him. This was followed by not even a warning from the director. |

| I wasn't there for the Men's Saber event. So, I guess I missed the drama.
One of the organizers of the event left a kind note on my blog addressing some of my criticisms. There was also a link to a bio on Rose Condon, which i posted as well.
All in all, I still think this was the best event I have ever been too.

He's such an amazing fencer, and he's really a great guy too. Definently had some interesting conversations, he had a lot of cool stories to tell. On the way back home he gave me some pointers on my fencing too, which is defenitely a benefit. I really hope he can come to our camp this summer, we would all really benefit from his experience. He's planning on going to the Cresent City Open so that event should be even better than past years. |

| I missed the event again this year becuase we had a small local level event on the same weekend (AKS: Amarillo Open). I am a division officer and referee and have to be at local level events.
I hope to attend in the future.
I have talked to a few people that went and a referee and everyone said the event is one of the most orginazied and sturctured event in the SW Section. They also said the levels of fencing and the selection of the events make it well worth the travel..
OH hummm maybe next year I'll get to go. Hope to see a lot of you at the |
