| The Phoenix Cup Taking my cue from Matt Hite ( aka hpfencing ), I am now going to pelt you all mercilessly with a barrage of announcements for the first annual
( hopefully ) Phoenix Cup/Desert Rose Challenge tournament!
OK, not really. But if anyone is interested, here is the website with complete details: http://www.phoenixcup.net/
It's May 21-22 in Mesa, Az, a city adjacent to Phoenix...and why, you may ask, do they not then call it the Mesa Cup? Ask someone else, I reply, because I don't know. Anyway, registration is through Ask FRED, here: http://askfred.net/Events/Prereg/pr...urnament_id=847
I hope to see some of you there!
P.S. This is a duplicate post to the one on the Tournaments forum...just to catch those who may not often look into that one. If this offends, Gav or Craig, go ahead and delete at your pleasure... |

| They wouldn't call it the Mesa cup because no one would recognize the name Mesa... and besides, it is part of the Phoenix-metropolitan area.
Phoenix is a great place, thanks for the info.

| Remember we now have the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. For those who want to learn some Armoring or just how to work on your own equipment. Dolly Donovan will be the Head Armorer with Dan, myself and others helping out.

| Really, though, a mesa is a far more appropriate place for a Cup than is a phoenix... |

Damn big country. If we just took out Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and the Dakotas, everything would be alot closer.

| You'll notice that I said I hoped to SEE some of YOU there---not BE seen BY you! The Inq must remain...a mystery. |

| Upside: Non-stop round trip airfare between SFO and PHX is only $138 total on United. (United must be miffed at America West or something).
Downside: Having an epee event at 7:30 am on a Sunday morning is just cruel and unusual. |

| Have you ever wondered why Epee competitions are in the morning and Sabre starts in the afternoon? How long does it take to have a competiton for Epee and Foil, considering the same number of competitors.

Is there anything more ridiculous than the English translation of that name? "The the Angels Angels of Anaheim"?
Anyway--fencing is romantic, and the image of the phoenix rising from the ashes is a lot more romantic than that of a mesa . . . a mesa . . . uh, basically sitting there being flat on top.
