Veterans and World Cups

In case anybody missed it, it has been announced on the USFA website that the FIE no longer forbids a veteran who has competed in a World Cup in the previous two years from competing in the World Veteran Championships (over-50). I realize this means diddly to most, but any over-50 (or soon-to-be over-50) who plans on making a world veteran team and enjoys entering domestic World Cups can now breathe a sigh of relief.

Oh, yeah, and thank Carla Mae Richards for following through with this when the veterans committee inquired.

Thanks Delia. What a relief!!

This was becoming a big problem in my Walter Mitty world where I was going to be cleaning up at the World Cups in the next few years before moving on to be Veteran World Épée Champ on my first try five years from now.

Actually this is good news for you, is it not? You won't have to avoid the Peabody WC now.

Well, when they decide to lower the minimum age to 40 as we do in the US I'll get interested. At the moment I'm a "veteran" in name only as far as they're concerned...

Yeah, I get to have my clock cleaned once again. I ain't gonna make the second day THIS year, it's gotten so much better. But I like going and it annoyed me to give it up.

Chris Becker and Nhi Lan Le are both in their late 30's, and both near the top of the points list in WS, so as far as I'm concerned I'm glad the international competition doesn't start until 50 <g>.

Inq- It wasn't a decision to lower the age here that created the difference... the FIE RAISED the age to 50 a year or two ago.
