| Fencing Picture Awarded 2nd Place By World Press Photo http://www.worldpressphoto.org/index...bandwidth=high
Looks like the Men's Team Sabre final
Nice to see our sport is still recognized as an aesthetic and photogenic one... If not TV friendly...

| I'm thinking it's USA vs France....that is DEFINITELY Keeth Smart on the left (kinda distinctive flunge there...plus the skin tone's dark brown)...Touya on the right, perhaps? |

| Despite being a good photo, I think the one with tiomkin and his display of plyometric ability is far better.

On the right it seems like a Russian Fencer. I was confused because I thought Keeth was the Frenchman (I am not sure he'd like to hear that, but those 3 stripes uniforms were ridiculous, every nation had the same, with different colors. ;-)
So it must have been shot during the 3rd place bout

| DFP, They're two different pictures. Serge Timacheff's shot of Jon Tiomkin is more of a "wow I didn't know this kind of stuff happened in fencing" kind of shot. It's good because it shows our sport in a way that other people might not have seen. This one is nice because it just looks good, it sorta looks more artsy to my eye.
In Timacheff's shot, the position of the fencers isn't as pretty as on this one, I think. But they're both great pics.

| The picture that got first is pretty lame...what exactly is so special about it that makes it better than flying people in spaceman uniforms with swords?

| Hey! That picture was in the Auckland Herald about 2 months ago under "Photos of the Olympics" or something like that, Don't know why it was so late. But yeah, I've seen that pic from a lot of diff angles now
Isn't that pic at the top of this forum ? next to the LPUSA link.

So it must have been shot during the 3rd place bout | I disagree about it being keeth. If you remember, keeth was wearing the blue lame during the olympics. That had to be Ivan Lee. |

It absolutely is the same picture, or the same scene shot a millisecond before or later.
Criag can probably tell us exactly who the fencers are. |

| It's Lee vs Podz, in the bronze medal team match (noting the dark background, whereas the prelims where they met in the individuals had other events going around in nearby strips (and you don't see the scoring machine behind them here either).
You can tell it's Lee because of the glove (which is not connected to the rest of his lame) and Podz because of his very familiar position.

| Also it helps that Ivan is left handed. Funny you should mention being French. At his last Junior Worlds, Ivan bought a lame from France Lame. They were pushing lames with the countries colors on the back. Totally illegal, but they were allowed. He thought he was buying the USA colors, but they were Blue, White and Red.

| Keeth is also left-handed. But he uses the PBT equipment, which means his lame has that cheapie blue shade (sorry, but that hue is just garish).
And only Ivan has arms so long that the glove and lame part ways when he extends his arm.

Podz kicked butt in the final bout against Keith.

| Yeah, when Keith made #1, everyone was like, "Ooh, shiny!" and kinda ignored Lee, who is a damn good fencer. |

| Going by their performances at the Olympics, if I didn't know anything about their previous statistics, I would have assumed that it was Lee who was number one, not Smart...

If you went back about 2 years, Keeth had 2 or 3 world cup gold medals. |
