Plastrons/Underarm protectors

I need to find the thinnest plastron I can. I've got LP's thin FIE. I followed their sizing guides and I think it's too large. Anyrate, no matter what plastron I wear, it tightens up my jacket and lame over it and my shoulder ends up hurting. Since I just replaced both my jacket and lame to FIT my shoulders into them, I need a plastron that'll fit under it without a huge amount of trouble. Someone in my club (who is lazy and hasn't shown up in a couple months, since he turned 21) had one that was ridiculously thin, so thin that it looked like silk. I dunno who made it or anything about it, other than it's what I'm looking for. Anyone know where I can find one?

the allstar ones are nice and thin (or used to be) and sound like what you describe.

The LP one is the same thinness as the one on the absolute fencing site. I want thinner, oddly enough. And I've SEEN one! I KNOW they exist! It doesn't have to be FIE. I just want thin. Stupid shoulders.

You should probably check out the nylon plastrons that Absolute and BG sell then.

I've seen REALLY thin synthetic plastrons, probably like the one you're thinking of; they were non-stretch, and thinner than BG-type nylon stretch ones...I think it was by Triplette. I just checked the website, and they list nylon, cotton, and stretch nylon-- the one I'm thinking about is most likely the bare-bones nylon. It's $14. (However, as it's by Triplette, it may very well be roomy and bunch up under your other gear...good luck!)

Yeah, I have one of those cheap triplette plastrons. For the price, it's really not bad at all, but it's definitely cut on the big side. I'd recommend ordering it a full size smaller than you actually are. Very thin, very light, if it wasn't so huge, I doubt I'd know I was wearing it.

Actually, I have Absolute's nylon plastron, and it's as thick as my (also Absolute stretch nylon) jacket--wearing the plastron with the jacket is like wearing two jackets. I found this thread because I'm trying to find myself a (much) thinner plastron. I can't speak to the BG version, but I'd be surprised to find that it's much different.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but is it the general consensus that the best non-FIE-price-range option for a thin plastron is the Triplette non-stretch nylon (UA-162 here), but perhaps in a size smaller than one's usual?

Your best bet might be duellist's non FIE plastron. I'm not sure of the price range, but last time I saw one it was pretty thin. Rick Shellhouse is on here (DuellistUSA, I think) and I'm sure he'd be happy to help.

Alas, $75 is more than I have to spend.

You probably want the Triplette Nylon plastron. It is the only peice of gear they have that I actually like/recommend. It is effectively as thin as two synthetic silk hankies sewn together. They are the thinnest I have ever found/seen/heard of. And they are not that expensive, although they are crap for hit absorbtion/protection and are not FIE. But they are very very comfy and what I prefer to use. The only FIE one I have seen that comes close, although it is thicker, is the Allstar FIE top of the line plastrons.

As far as prices are concerned, you may be able to get a discount through your husband. Suppliers often offer discounts to coaches and clubs.

You know, I was hoping someone whose opinions I respect would tell me that the $14 option is best. Score. I get to wear Barbie boobs underneath said plastron, so hit absorption/protection isn't too big an issue.

Hey, you remember me! Hello! I'd love to go with Duellist ('cause, y'know, IRON MAIDEN , among other things), but I doubt they'd be able to go as low as I'd need them to. Plus, I'm obviously pretty pleased with the prospect of a $14 plastron that gets me what I want. That's a good point about discounts, though.

Definitely follow up on the discount angle. We get between 15-20%, depending on how much we order each year. That's a nice thing.

I replaced a hateful heavy denim-like cotton plastron (the cheapest BG made) with an Uhlmann FIE this past year. I actually wear this one every time I fence - unlike the uncomfortable one that bunched up under my jacket, and I only wore for tournaments.

Besides being comfy, the Uhlmann (similar to the Allstar, from what I understand) actually prevents much of my bruising, despite being so thin. I used to look like a victim of domestic abuse. This thing is amazing, and worth the money.

BTW... I wear my chest protector OVER my plastron. Don't seem to sweat so much that way, or at least I don't feel it.

Sure do, Mrs. Turoff. I've seen your husband around at a few competitions, but I haven't gotten to fence him yet.

As far as discounts for coaching and club gear, Absolute gives me 20% off of their own stuff and 15% off of imports. The Fencing Post gives 20% to anyone who event mentions the website, and Craig here gives 10% if I recall correctly, but that might be on club gear only. Duellist does offer a discount, and I talked with Rick about it, but unfortunately I can't remember it off the top of my head.

Whoops--no, I'm not Sandy's wife. I bet my saying that Fishkill Fencers is my husband's new club threw you off. Sorry. It's my husband's new club because we're new to the area, and his old club was Parkway, in St. Louis. Right club, though!

You could try this:

http://www.medieval-chain-mail-armor...nie-shirt.html

I'm not sure if it would meet regulations and it would definately be a bit heavy!
