Point in Line Attack or Remise?

In saber, I establish a line but the opponent fails to take the blade. To
retain my priority, I still have to hit with the point or can I just cut? I
think I heard somewhere that if I make a cut after a failed taking of the
line, it's actually a remise. Thanks.

Re: Point in Line Attack or Remise?

Assuming the attempt at taking of the blade is followed immediately by an
attack, the call would be
"point in line - NO. Attack on the line - YES (if it hits). Counter-attack
- YES (but out of time). Touch for the attack."

In order for a point in line to count, it must arrive with the point.

If the attempt at taking of the blade is not followed by an attack then it
is just a search and the PIL fencer's cut is an attack in preparation.

Fence epee instead, and just hit your opponent first. Life is so much
simpler. =)

Re: Point in Line Attack or Remise?

You must hit with the point, not the edge.

But it takes a good referee to see this.

(top post corrected)

In general, with a point in line you must hit with the point to score.
But in this case, you don't. The call would be

Point in line is no
Beat attack onto the line is no
Attack into preparation is good (with point or with edge)

Similarly, if he didn't beat the line but attacked short, the right of
attack passes to the other fencer, who could attack with edge or point.

Re: Point in Line Attack or Remise?

If he failed taking your blade then why would you want hitting with the
edge??? You already took your line, just lunge and get that point.

.... sometime people think to much ....
