    Olympic Fencing being shown by Italian TV

    Hi all,

    RAI have the following link
    www.fastweb.it/streaming/raisport.asx

    Last night they showed the women's sabre and men's epee. I believe they
    are showing the women's foil today.

    Italian commentary but the action speaks for itself.

    British Eurosport seems to have given up on fencing altogether and the
    BBC has shown about 10 minutes.

    Well worth a look. The link is shared with volleyball, judo and
    swimming - at the moment 8.39 a.m. British time - it's swimming.

    Geez! Just as I am about to fly off to nowhere, I find this! Trillini just won
    her semi-final bout, and I have to fly.

    Unfair!

    The problem with this site is that too many people are apparently
    trying to watch it. The picture freezes all the time. It's very
    hard to watch a sport like that. The audio usually comes through
    clearly but since I don't speak Italian, that doesn't really help.

    I have a high speed connection (4Mb/s) but perhaps there's a delay
    on the way across the pond? Sometimes I get full motion for a little
    while but of course, never during fencing .

    I have the opposite problem: the video is quite clean, but I cannot
    get it to yield the audio for love or money...

    Found a good way to handle the problems with poor connections. Going
    direct to the link with Windoze Media Player was useless, so I picked
    up a demo version utility from TUCOWS called "CoCSoft Stream Down"
    that will capture streaming video and store it locally. There's other
    utilities that will do the same, this was just the first I found that
    didn't limit capture to something useless like two minutes. Left it
    running last night, finished up with a gigabyte .asf file this
    morning. Now all I need to do is search it and edit it for fencing
    content...

    You can get here http://www2.raisport.rai.it/news/tv.htm
    the broadcasting schedule. The time is, obviously, CET.

    Bye, Francesco

    I just forgot...

    Scherma = Fencing
    Fioretto = Foil
    Spada = Epee
    Sciabola = Sabre
