One thing I always have, don't know about it's availability outside the UK,
is something called 'Kool Strips'. They're a strip of gel with an adhesive
backing. Peel and stick. Very cold, and good for a few hours.

Haven't tried them during/after fencing, they only seem to get used when
I've got a hangover

I have seen and even worn the vest in question. John Moreau uses one
while giving lessons in hot South Texas, under his Coach's jacket,
plastron, extra padding, and over a tee shirt. I don't see why you
couldn't fence in one, since they don't leak. Because they are
vulnerable to puncture, I guess a hard plastron would be pretty smart.
The core "stuff" is cooled by a relatively short period in a bucket
of ice water. The vest costs about $200.00, I think, but the core
"stuff" seems to be what is expensive - I seem to remember hearing
they were way over $100.00 to replace. But gosh, it felt good on a
hot Texas night! It was not very heavy, and it didn't chill me, just
cooled me.
