Up or Down? =)

The lettering for your last name, printed on the rear leg of your knickers...

Do they read from top to bottom or vise versa? I've seen both (I think). Which is correct?

I've seen it both ways. The only rule is that it must be legible, in dark blue, and no larger than 10 cm (4").

When I had my name on my leg, I had it so it read down, since if I actually did a proper lunge, the name would be right side up.

It goes down, but there is no rule.
When I did it myself, I did it so that it would read when I was sitting. I was much rebuked. When the tears dried I bought a new pair of knickers and did them correctly.

You don't have to pay the Marx Bros. (he he) $25.00 for it either. Go to any sign shop and explain what you want to do. They can cut a perfect stencil for ~$5 out of any kind of vinyl.
Mask the rest of your knickers generously with tape and newspaper.
Common spray paint of the appropriate color will do fine even on lame's. (Test it on a hidden part of your lame first, just to be safe.)

Do what I did, practice on a pair of $10 baseball pants or even a T-shirt first.
That way you won't screw up the FIE stuff.
