Re: US Summer National I hope he doesn't plan on bringing a couple thousand fencers with him!! I'm
guessing he's going with a small group at most, and that can be easily
handled by these smaller hotels. I wouldn't be surprised if the site hotal
was sold out already anyway...

There are a couple of small hotels across the street on Independence,
but certainly not enough to handle a couple of thousand fencers and
families. Best to stay with the host hotel.

Especially in light of the commentary, over on fencing.net, by a
fencer from Charlotte who has been past the venue recently. Apparently
the area is, shall we say, seedy in the extreme, and the hotels nearby
are fleabags. Moreover, road construction in the vicinity makes it
impossible to get across the street from the hotels to the venue---a
detour of a mile or so, through the aforementioned dubious
neighborhood, seems to be required.
He feels too that the shuttle will be a safer way to arrive and depart
than to risk being accosted in the parking lot of the venue. All in
all the picture I am forming of the location is not a complimentary
one... -

What commentary?? Got a quick URL??
It's so hard to get any real information.
And I just scanned fencing.net and didn't
such commentary - not saying it's not there.

Accosted? how intriguing. Accosted as in Pssst man! You wanna duel or
something?? All of a sudden Charlotte begins to sound interesting.
Should I make room in my bag for a sharp??
Anyway it can't be any worse than my first time at Arlington, Tx.
There we were behind a strip joint and a tattoo parlor right around
the corner from a tobacco store with psychedelic products. The second
time was much more sedate. But frankly it really doesn't matter as long
as the rooms are acceptable and the beds firm and no smoking.
But please do publish a pointer to the commentary.

Here it is: http://www.fencing101.com/vb/showthread.php?t=11198
The commentary I mentioned starts on page 2.

Mightn't be a bad idea. Wonder what the CCW reciprocity laws are like
in NC?

I think I stayed in that same place. Motel 6? Worst lodging experience
I ever had, including being given a room that hadn't been cleaned or
made up, then moved to a smoking room with no blanket on the bed, and
getting prank called in the middle of the night... -

Seems there must be two or more sites calling themselves
fencing.net. And I found the various comments.
Still it doesn't sound as off putting as Arlington.

And there I thought my experience was unique.
But you got it right - it was Motel 6.
Unfortunately it wasn't the worst accommodations
I ever had. That honor is reserved for Georgia.
I did sign on for the fencing net e-mails but
how do you get to the threads and comments?

There'a a link to the discussion forums on the left side of the home
page. The URL to them is http://www.fencing101.com/vb/ You have to
register to post, I think, but you can read without it.
I didn't know there was another fencing.net Similar Threads -
