#1 | | Guest | Question about time expiring In my FOC seminar notes, I have the following:
"If there's a halt from the timekeeper, a light that goes on after the
halt does NOT count.
Example:
Attack from A
Parry from B
Remise from A lands valid
Halt from timekeeper as time expires
Riposte from B lands
In this case, the riposte from B does not count."
What is not clear to me is if this makes the remise good or not. I'm
thinking that, on a machine that ties the lights to the timer--I think
they have those in big competitions--there would be only one light, so
you'd have to award it, but I don't really know.

You're either:
A) Being cute and philosophical, which is fine, but not helpful
or
B) Trying to answer my question.
But if it's B, you haven't answered it, since the remise lands BEFORE
time expires.

The new scoring machines that have the timer function close out any hit
after the time expires. This is in accordance with the rules. If I have a
timekeeper, I always instruct them to position themselves so that they can
see the lights and let me know whether any lights happened before time
actually ran out, rather than when they get the word out of their mouth.
There is often about a half second delay between the timeout and the word.

Chris

For me, the repose is the only thing that counts since it happened
before the expiration of time. The remise is 'out of time' and doesn't
count.
Here's one for you: Fencer A begins a fleche towards Fencer B. Just
before A's point lands, time expires so A's touch is just after time.
Does it count and why? | |

No, it doesn't count, because nothing can score after time expires.
