    TCA FIE Jacket?

    Dear all:

My Santelli jacket of some 13 years is finally showing its age, and I
am currently searching for a new, preferably FIE, jacket. I would buy
an Uhlmann "Olympia" but even ordering direct, the cost is close to
$300--and worth it, I imagine--but beyond my pocketbook's ability to
pay or my conscience's ability to justify.

I have always thought that Triplette Competition Arms made good 350N
jackets and I'm seriously considering their #TPJ FIE jacket--the one
made of "Dyneema;" at $200 for an FIE homologated jacket, the price
    would be difficult to beat.

Has anyone who reads this group used this jacket in regular
competition, and if so, how do you feel about it, in terms of
performance, quality and value? Has anyone used both this jacket and
another FIE jacket, regardless of manufacturer, and if so, how do they
    compare?

    Thank you, and cheers,

    Re: TCA FIE Jacket?

I've seen someone at my club who bought a brand new TCA FIE jacket. It
looks like their lames... cut like a burlap sack!

Fencing Post(Saul and Vickie) run an excellent operation and they
currently have a sale on the Uhlmann OWorld Cup jacket if i remember
dcorrectly. Its around $100.00 USD. Since you are in CA you should
just call them. Good stuff great prices.

I do like triplettes selection of blades. But their website, like
their tailoring is atrocious! they are one of the few places that sell
the bf GOLD maraging blades. Personally I prefer the PS maraging.

I think their unitards are great though and plan on getting on when
next Im in Elkin NC and have some dough to spend. I like the idea of
those hot fencing ladies looking at my butt..which, due to fencing,
has gotten quite nice lol. I'm really going to enjoy all the stares
Ill get when I fence epee lol. No lame to cover anything in the front,
no butt floss in the back.

I talked to someone who was using the leotard for fencing epee. He said there
was lack of backup for the zipper and that the material was a little thin for
    epee hits.

But then you he men might like collecting bruises to go with your cute butts.

    Re: TCA FIE Jacket?

I agree with the comment re: Saul and Vickie at TheFencingPost.com

After a year of wearing out my "practice" jacket (a BG) - I sprung for a "real" Jacket last month.

It was an Uhlmann World Cup FIE 800N Jacket . TheFencingPost price - $179.00 ( less 20%). I'm a 44 in a dress jacket. The Uhlmann's are cut smaller than other jacket's so I had to return my 44 for a 46 (a perfect fit). They were super about the exchange! The final price was $165 for a jacket you see everywhere else for $250.

    Cheers

    Ron

I'm pretty sure it's illegal to have a "cute butt" collection in every
    state but Iowa.

This was also the experience of my clubmate Joe Biebel (current Veterans-50
MF World Champion). He ordered a TCA FIE uniform for Veterans' Worlds,
received it about a week before he departed for Limoges, and found that
the fit was atrocious (the collar was 18" around, and uneven to boot,
for starters). With no time to send it back he ended up making the
    modifications himself.

Alas, though the Fencing Post IS great, that sort of deal is probably
not to be found consistently. I suspect they were selling the
remainder of their stock obtained before the recent deterioration in
the dollar-Euro exchange rate. Their catalog now reflects the currency
adjustments, and their prices are in line with everyone else's. But
service-wise alone they're still sterling people to deal with.

As to the TCA jackets, wwhile it wasn't an FIE I've been wearing one
of their jackets for something like 10 years now. I special-ordered it
with alterations so I can't speak to their off-the-rack sizing, but I
will say that it's been durable as all get out, apart from a zipper
that sometimes wants to spread open.
