Weapon choice for a fencing workshop

What do you count to be the best weapon for a fencing workshop which
are given to people who never picked up a weapon?
And what's the most important lesson that they should learn?

Épée, because then they would not have to bother with trying to understand ROW.
Most important lesson...perhaps to NEVER fence without wearing a mask?

Best of luck with the workshop!

I think the answer depends on whether the students are planning on continuing with the fencing or just doing it for fun. If for fun, definately epee, mainly because (as Zilver pointed out already) of the lack of Right of Way, and other annoying rules like targets and stop hits...
However, If they are planning on continuing fencing after the workshop, I would advise foil, mainly because It's easier (at least in my estimation) to pick up Sabre and Epee from foil then the other way(s) around.
And I don't think Sabre should even be a consideration. You would have alot of bruised fencers walking around...and probably several with a very dim view of the sport.

Hope that was some help. TJE

A spada is the best weapon to start with: it has the sould of fencing itself.

And the lesson is that fencing is a science and a cultural heritage. Alaways fence like you were into a duel!
