    Fencing.net Tournament

Ok, here we go: this is ripped off CvilleFencer's idea in the improvements thread, with his permission of course. What we'd like to do is have a fencing.net tournament, held at summer nationals since that's the event with the biggest turnout. I'm thinking that mixed foil, sabre and epee would be the best format, with a round of pools then 100% to DE's. Each event would be held on a day where the most fencers could make it, and would be self directed, making use of the empty strips at the beginning/end of the day.

There'd be no entry fee, because everything is provided at the venue and we're directing ourselves. It would be limited to registered fencing.net members, with pre-registration so the pools can be made up ahead of time. Also there wouldn't be any prize pool/medals unless people are willing to chip in money towards that, the idea is that it would be a fun tournament for bragging rights only.

So what do people think? Suggestions or comments?

No, as it would not be a hosted USFA tourney, but if you do really well maybe we will give you some rep points...

I'd certainly be interested... although I don't know if I'm too keen on all of you knowing just how bad a fencer I am...

It would be amusing . . . but my own schedule aside, I'm not too sanguine about the prospect of having any strips available for a separate tournament. It's hard enough to find a strip to warm up on . Though we could do it late in the evening.

I for one would love to go, but it's just a wee bit too far away for me to go...

Now theres an idea for prizes... first place gets a shiny new green dot!

And Peach, i think it would have to be in the evening, when most events are winding down and the most strips are available.

You need to at least fence well, and that might be the major stumbling block.

no kidding. If you were there, you saw me getting reamed out on strip 27. Since its for rep points, I had better train hard.

Yeah, no one would listen to me again if you guys saw me fence. I'm so sloppy right now...

Epee, though, would be fun. Actually, it all would be fun. If I go to Summer Nationals, I'll do it.

(But, I don't plan on going unless I qualify in foil and epee in Division 2 and 3, and in U19. Which is unlikely. But if I get a C in epee, I'll go definately. That's unlikely, but not out of the question.)

Would you be required to have your online moniker on your lamé or on your non-weapon leg?

On the brim of your baseball cap, worn backwards inside your mask.

..... at the end of a... like... 20 hour fencing day.... whtouche comes here to post. how predictable.

anyway, yes, i will be very interested if i end up going to nationals.... however, i kind of have the feeling that, like last year, i'll mostly plan on going all year and then blatenly not.

    oh well.
