| Design your own grip I have never found a grip that I have been completely satisfied with and I have tried them all.
The rules are grips are so rigid.
I've always wanted to create my own grip and it would look someting like this. But of course behind a bell guard.
what about you guys? |

| Such a grip as you describe would, I think, be legal under the current rules: it certainly "fixes the hand in one position". I say go for it and submit it to the competition committee. The worst they can say is No, and you'll be no worse off than you are now.
I've wanted to design my own grip for some time. My hands are so wide, I can't find an orthopedic grip that's comfortable. The Russian comes the closest, and that's not really that close.

| After a while, wouldn't you get blisters between your knuckles? I mean, it looks cool, but wouldn't a set of large brass knuckles welded to the guard work better? You'd have finger control forward and backwards then, too...
Unless, of course, I'm looking at it completely wrong... |

| I think such a grip would actually be weak and uncomfortable. Regular pistol grips the blade is supported by your hand and fingers, with that thing most of the weight would rest between your fingers near the hand.

| Hmm.........Smallsword! Most smallswords that I have seen--in pictures and real life--have whats called a knuckle guard, a little like the sabre kind. It seems to me that when people had to fight for their lives they would have been pretty creative, as well as practical. I don't think one could find fault with the general design for the purpose.
The smallsword (aka courtsword, townsword) is an elegant, efficent, and aesthetically pleasing weapon.

| I'd like a visconti, but with a little extra grip, maybe some parts a little thicker, and rough all around. Oh, and small, I like small grips. |

| A grip that was like a medium sized france lames visconti, but had the tail prong offset a downward.
