| Greatest US. president - poll continuation #1 Hi!
The first "Greatest US. President" poll gave a splintered result, with the winner taking 21% of the total votes. For my own amusement, I thought that it would be interesting to see what a run-off election would give. I will run short polls, and until some canidate gets 50% or more there will be a new poll, with the loser from the previous one deleted as a possible poll alternative. In the 1st poll, Presidents Jackson and Kennedy shared this unenviable position with one vote each. I, somewhat arbitrarily, chose to delete Kennedy since he did not served out his term. I do not know of any better objective tiebreaker right now. Should be interesting to see where this leads us.
Have a nice time!
Peter Gustafsson
PS. The first poll results were:
Washington 9 11.11%
Jefferson 8 9.88% Jackson 1 1.23%
Lincoln 17 20.99%
T. Roosevelt 12 14.81%
F. Roosevelt 11 13.58%
Truman 2 2.47% Kennedy 1 1.23%
Reagan 11 13.58%
Clinton 9 11.11% |

| Frankly I find it insulting that anybody could vote against Bill Clinton. The man had an affair, lied to the people, and is still uber popular - and stylish!
Oh and he is friends with Nelson Mandela and that makes the abbolition of slavery seem small.

| This poll doesn't let you vote against anyone. You can only vote for someone.
I'd like to see a poll where you could place either a "for" or an "against" vote. See what drives people more.

It would be interesting to see which president gets high both negative and positive ratings, and I make a poll for that also. However, since these 9 are mostly among the better, the negative ratings would not mean all that much - there are undoubtedly presidents who are more worthy of the questionable honor.

| Hi!
So, then this stage is finished then. Jackson and Truman both get zero votes, and are eliminated from further running. I had intended this poll series as an object lesson in runoff voting, but the interest seems to be waning, so if the number of cast votes in the next stage does not increase, I will call it quits.
I am personally surprised that Lincoln got so few votes. Also, the voting result seems to bear out the short memory of many people. The presidents serving in living memory - FDR and onwards - have amassed a total of 9 of 21 votes, a similar result as in the first poll (34 of 81). Those presidents have served in a 68-year span, out of the 224 years from Washington to Clinton. Bad history lessons?
Have a nice time!

| They don't teach history in US schools. Just something called "social studies." Insert snarky comment here.
