| Life lessons learned from fencing. There seem to be many lessons you can take away from fencing both serious and humorous. I thought it might be amusing to see what the rest of you come up with. As a 51 year old male this one occured to me after having it hammered home in my class last night:
1. There ain't nothing like having your posterior handed to you by a 14 year old girl to teach you humility!
Anybody care to add their own?

| You don't need balls when you've got 36 inches.

| Practice does not make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.
A team with high expectations can make its members fence beyond their limits.
Hard work with a good attitude is an amazingly powerful combination.

| Work hard during practice, cause it'll be that much easier later when it really counts. |

| Losing teaches you more than winning can.
In love as in fencing, in order to win, you have to risk getting hurt.
It's about inspiring jealousy. That's what fencing's all about! |

| A ten-point lead means nothing.
Never give up!
Kindness goes a long way. (Not while you're actually fencing, of course! ) |

| Solve your problems one point at a time.
Don't get mad, get even.
When you lose, do so with dignity in an adult manner.
When you win, do so with dignity in an adult manner.
Don't let people push you back until you're out of options.
If you think someone might try to prevent what you're planning, make it appear that you're planning something else.
Sieze the moment!
If you can't be the fastest, be the smartest.

| You cannot think while mad/frustrated, etc. (Paraphrased: Don't give in to the Dark Side of the Force.)
If you are otherwise evenly matched the person who wants the victory will win. Also, the desire to win can enhance your skills.
Bruises heal.
Real life sure ain't like the movies!
Sometimes they will fall for the same trick three times in a row. Unless you count on it.
Corollary: Don't rely on one skill. Someone will be able to counter it.
Don't judge an individual by their clothes (Club gear? Must be new. Easy.)
Your blade will rust if you don't look after it.
Commit to an action! It won't work if you don't!
