| I'm not quite sure why the thread was closed or why the moderator was pissed off.
Or is this just another example of the British "taking the piss"?

| OK OK!
JBirch gets the rep points and proves that it's not entirely true that Americans 'don't get' irony.

| Thanks guys I feel vindicated. Gav, I wasn't having a go at you. I'm sorry if I caused offense. That wasn't the intention. I was laughing at myself more than anything.

| Louweasel QC, instructed for the defendant (Gav), addresses HHJ Schiavona:
"Your honour, Canada is widely acknowledged to be situated in the continent of North America. Therefore, an inference can reasonably drawn that inhabitants of Canada may accurately be referred to as "American"; I refer your honour to the precedent of referring to an English person as a European, without any objections of which we are aware. Consequently, the Crown submits that the defendant's calling jbirch "american" is wholly acceptable and therefore applies for a stay of proceedings on the ground that there is no case to answer."
I've got my legal head on today.

I apologise to Canadians and Americans alike. Proof, it seems, that even I am fallible. |

| Actually, technically he is American, NORTH American. Just like the Mexicans, the Colombians, and the Brazilians are SOUTH American, but American nonetheless. MMMMM, Brazil, I think I'll go down there and pick me up one of those American women
