Wire for reel-less systems

OK, all you hard-core armorers, here's a good one for you to sink your teeth in:

I need to know if anyone has a line on where to get about 1000' of three conductor wire commercially to make reel-less, overhead systems with. Need some help with specs for what is used in off-the-shelf systems and reels.

I know!! I know!!

You can try Del City...

Their web-site is: www.delcity.net

They will have the length you need, exactly what type of wire that you use is up to you. I believe they can also custom make wires for you as well. I haven't used that feature but I would call and find out.

Best of Luck to you!

I can't give you an exact recommendation since I don't know the size of the pulleys, piste length, etc that you are planning. BUT, for sure you should use cable made by Olflex. This is cable that is specifically made for continuous flex usage and as such will not be as prone to breaking like standard cable. It's a bit more expensive but will pay for itself in the long run. Their catalog can be accessed at
http://www.olflex.com/onlinecatalog.htm
Typically the big electronics suppliers, such as Allied Electronics and Newark sell their product.
Hope that helps.

Hey Mergs. I am not sure if this is what you are looking for or not, but the system specs on what we use are as follows

4 Hanging 3"-4" pulleys with tounge (keeps them from coming out of the groove!) X4
16 meters of 3/16th bungee cord (1/4th is overkill)
20 meters of reel cable (I use the uhlmann as it lasts forever and is very durable)
2 allstar end sockets
2 epee plug sockets
2 eye bolts (anchored in the cealing near where the plugs come down to the box and wrapped around a couple of times for straing relief)
2 1/2" cable locks (used to keep the sockets handing low)

I hope all that made sense. We don't buy this stuff in super bulk so I can't help you there, but we can make ours for aroun 100-120 and the parts and peices are a lot better than the TCA or PBT ones. Let me know if I was not clear on anything or if you would like to know where we buy our bits and peices.

Thanks Cville, I appreciate the info, and it tracks with what I have for the overall system design, but I am specifically looking for the wire in bulk.

Hi Mergs, have you heard of www.McMaster-Carr.com ? They seem pretty decent for buying all manner of hardware in moderate bulk. 3-conductor constant-flex wire, pulleys of all sizes, bungee in whatever length desired, etc, etc. When I was in my senior year of college, my friend the club armorer designed and built our whole reel-less system with parts ordered off there. Well, except for the machine, of course. The prices seemed fair enough, and it was easy to find everything we wanted.

Yes I have and have used them extensively for my regular job (well, at least when I was building hardware, and not just pushing paper!) Will have to look into the 3 conductor constant flex wire. Thanks!
