| Epee contact spring question I'm armoring some weapons for Harvard-Westlake HS. One of them is an epee with an Estoc screwless point. The contact spring's really fouled up and needs to be replaced.
Will a standard french or german contact spring work on this tip, or is it a special one for Estoc only? I rarely work on these, so I don't have much experience with them |

| IIRC, and I have only worked on these a couple of times, you can make a normal German contact spring work, you just may have to play with it or trim it a bit.

| Cville is correct. I have one of the Estoc points, and the contact spring popped off, got intertwined in the pressure spring, and whilst trying to extract it from that it got pretty killed.
I replaced it with a german contact spring, but had to do some significant trimming to the spring.
I can't comment on how well it has held up, as it is the least favorite weapon in my bag (directly attributable to the blade, not the point, I love the point), and haven't had to use it since I replaced the spring.

| Well, I tried a german spring...appeared to work, until Istarted getting indications that there was a wire break at the cup. Rewire time.
Thanks for the help, guys! |

| Sam,
Did you try it with a French contact spring? If so, how'd it work?

| As far as I know, you cannot use anything but Estoc's contact springs. They are of different size. So you could make one out of a German if you knew the correct size.
The Estoc lady I bought my screwless points from a couple of years ago had sold me a bag of springs with it just for that purpose (they are different). When I found I didn't like the points I dumped the springs, I think.

| the Estoc points are a different length (shorter), but the diameter is the same (or close enough so that it works).
